NPCs of DC's Oerth

Ambrose Silverhawk - A member of Greyhawk's Mage's Guild, Ambrose is a blond-haired, blue-eyed, young mage in his mid-20's. Quite a powerful spell caster, Ambrose is often seen flying over the city for one reason or another. He works closely with civil authorities as a wizard-cop, handling problems beyond those of conventional city watchmen. Because of this, he has strong ties with various guild members and civic leaders. Ambrose is best known, however, for his egotism, self-righteousness and determination.

Bob the Bartender - One of the two owners of the Green Griffon, Bob is a well known figure both in the foreigner's quarter and in the city of Greyhawk in general. Despite losing his left eye, Bob is a crack shot with the ever-cocked, heavy crossbow he keeps under the bar. As an experienced barkeep, he is immune to sleep spells and a fair combatant, although Bob fights only if he must as he is not one of the most courageous of souls. Long, brown hair and a short, darker brown beard off Bob's otherwise heavy-set appearance.

Borros - A wizened, old, potbellied alchemist from High Haven, Borros is one of the few hedge-row alchemists around. Known as a dirty old man, Borros often trades his magical potions for the favors of young women. He has a standing offer to brew-up almost any magical potion for a price, assuming of course that the buyer supplies all the ingredients. The yard around Borros' large home is full of strange and rare flora, usually of the pseudo-magical variety.

Clairmont - The "second in command" of the Temple of St. Cuthbert, Clairmont was Ian's logical choice. There is much in common between the two priest. Clairmont is a well establish adventurer who has little desire to run the huge Greyhawkian monastery. At 26 years of age, Clairmont has nearly acquired the title of high priest himself. Its been during these years of adventuring that Clairmont has set himself apart by his accomplishments, including the destruction of the cambrian-necromancer-juju zombie, Death Adder. Clairmont can be counted upon for his fairness and reason as well as his adherence to justice. He often is called upon by the authorities in Greyhawk to help out in police-like endeavors working opposite of Ambrose Silverhawk. Ian encourages the situation to prepare Clairmont for his future position of high priest of Greyhawk. In Ian's view, Clairmont is a perfect priest save for one slight, inexplicable aberration; his compassion for witches.

Dave the Bartender - Bob's partner, Dave is the other half of the Green Griffon. Dave tends to keep a low profile around the Griffon, preferring to keep the books. It is not clear what Dave's origins are; his has a viking flair, he knows the axe and crossbow, he speaks Tuskar but appears to be Flanese! One thing is for certain and that is Dave is rather new to adventuring life. On the few occasions when he has acted in the bar, his greenness has been noted; he is the only worker at the Griffon who has ever been slept.

Erizin the Stargazer - A sage in the free city of Greyhawk, Erizin is an expert on all things dealing with the stars and space. Erizin's knowledge about astronomy, astrology and stellar bodies is unparalleled in the known world. In addition, Erizin is well versed in dweomercraft and often answers queries about magic items. Although a colleague of Ke'omander Whitebrow, the two maintain a friendly-but-distant relationship.

Gramis - Balding with a wispy halo of white hair, Gramis is approximately forty years old. He is a mid-level wizard associated with the Mage's Guild of Greyhawk. He has on occasion hired adventurers on behalf of the Guild to act as couriers or obtain rare, magical ingredients. He is also the wizard who handles all interactions with the "Test" of Greyhawk. Little else is known about Gramis save that he wears a silver "survival medallion" around his neck.

Grimslade the Grey - This seasoned warrior-turned-lesser-nobleman keeps his own company. Standing 6'1", Grimslade has black hair with a stripe of gray and dark brown eyes. Little details of his life are known. He and Moorak Drake had quite a tangle a decade ago and his merchant house is the Drake House's greatest rival. Grimslade recently became involved in the mind flayer conflict, putting his legendary obsideon sword to excellent use. The only bonds of loyalty the man have are to his former adventuring companions: Mirrana, Quelzar and Wynith Kinseeker.

Gurna Girthworthy - A mountain dwarf formerly from Thunderhold, Gurna is now the chief matron of the Displacer in Klarr. A very strict, no-nonsense housekeeper, it is a wonder that she doesn't move on with a boss like Jasmine and the bar's clientele. Gurna can be best typified in human terms as a german brutette. While not a bouncer, Gurna has on more than one occasion challenged and even cowed the giant-slayers and adventurers that frequent the Displacer. Gurna's reputation in drinking bouts is nearly spotless (so who CAN beat a centaur?).

Hannok of Fangoria - An extremely ancient wood elf, Hannok is the druidic leader of the Vesve Forest's wood elves. Hannok lives in Fangoria, a small treetop community on the western edge of the forest. Perhaps the greatest living druid of Rillifane Ralifil, Hannok is revered by his people for his wisdom, his knowledge, his age and his power. It is said that Hannok has watched the peoples of Oerik and remembers clearly both the Invoked Devastation and the Great Migration.

Ian MacFarland - High priest of the Temple of St. Cuthbert, it was Ian who spearheaded the church's growth in the city of Greyhawk. A Highlander by birth, Ian has been living and adventuring in the Cairn Hills region for quite sometime. Ian counts among his friends most of the older and more powerful representatives of Greyhawk's guilds. Spry for his sixty-some years, Ian is often out of the temple combating evil or lobbying in the Oligarchy. His gruff attitude and grandfatherly appearance belay his keen insight and sophisticated cunning. The cunning Highlander's clear blues see all...!

Karla - The only female bouncer in Greyhawk, Karla quickly earned her position at the Green Griffon by throwing out several tough fighters (including Warmgruel!). A martial artist, Karla had revealed little about her training. Karla is normally armed with an enchanted, fire-hardened oaken staff. She uses this or her fists to deal with trouble. This six foot tall blonde displays grace and beauty as well as strength and stamina in a surprisingly pretty package. It is Karla's cool manner and calm wits, however, which set her apart.

Keiron Jalucian - The Arch-Mage of Greyhawk, Keiron is the Guildmaster of Greyhawk's Guild. In the wake of the Illithid War, Keiron is one of the few known mages capable of casting Wish. Keiron appears as a 6'3", cute, soft, slightly-overweight, twenty-something who has induldged a bit too much in life's pleasures. Many greater devils and demons have under-estimated his kind, blue eyes and disarming, blond, shoulder-length locks. Keiron has used tremendous magics to give him the strength, speed and stamina of gifted fighters and thieves. His outward appearance belies his finely honed body. Keiron is a contemplative man, prone to thinking long and hard before acting. In contrast, Keiron enjoys the excitment of the Greyhawk's ever-moving social life and always dresses the part. Ever-possessed with a flair for the dramatic, this level-headed wizard works for the forces of good both on Oerth and elsewhere in the multiverse.

Ke'omander Whitebrow - A distinguished older gentleman, Ke'omander is a combination statesman, alchemist, wizard and sage. Well versed in the sciences of energy, necromancy and alchemy as well as dweomercraft, Ke'omander often answers queries for adventurers. In addition, Ke'omander does much of his own research in these fields. He has perused the Book of the Dead and mastered most of the evocative spells in circulation. Ke'omander is not quite as successful in his alchemical studies, having a reputation for blowing up laboratories. Ke'omander is well liked by many of the power brokers in Greyhawk and has strong connections in the Mage's Guild. He is often seen around the city in upper-class establishments with local socialites or visiting wizards. He is a known friend of Tyris Flare. Ke'omander has a wreath of white hair and hazel eyes.

Lasivar - A cocky-but-careful, up-and-coming assassin, Lasivar has already tangled with quite a few of Oerth's "heavy hitters" including Slee & Gamoth, Kinsa & Tobian, Bart, Wing Cho-tan and Ambrose. Although he has been captured several times by his foes, he has never been held long. Lasivar has even escaped from the Wizard's Guild Cold-blooded, it is said by many he will one day rule the cut-throats of Greyhawk, if his ambitions don't get him killed first. Turin puts up with his antics and to date the pair have never met at cross purposes. Most believe Turin keeps the young assassin around because he is quite useful. Others feel that perhaps Lasivar may soon be running the cut-throats of Greyhawk.

Miranna of Istus - Another mysterious figure in Greyhawk, Miranna is the High Priestess of the Cathedral of Istus in Greyhawk. She is argued by some to be the most powerful and most callous of the city's clergy. She ministers to those of all alignments -- after asking for the judgement of Fate. This she does by rolling dice-shaped gems. If the roll is successful, all spells are permitted. If not... Miranna is known for sending those seeking her magics on long and even impossible quests. She appears as a chaotic and childish power-broker to those unfamiliar with her subtle ways. Crossing her can be a terminal mistake. Miranna is best known for capturing the soul of an evil dragon which offended her and forcing its spirit to recount every creature it had ever killed in reverse chronological order. Miranna left before the dragon had finished the first description.

Mirkquin - A mysterious drow elven high priestess of Corellon Larethian, Mirkquin is the life-long friend of Hannok of Fangoria. She appears to be a beautiful dark elven woman in her late thirties to early forties with white hair and red eyes. She usually dresses in cloak and boots of elvenkind and bears a mithril mace. Little is known of Mirkquin's origins. She has revealed that she was born and raised in the Underdark, although she has lived on the surface for "more than two centuries." It's important to note that it was the actions of Slee and the Blade Seekers which returned the dark elf to life at the bidding of Hannok. According to the wizened druid, Mirkquin died on an adventure some 180 years before. This would put Mirquin's birth at least 450 years ago. Whatever the truth, Mirquin keeps it to herself.

Marelleus Rindelfane - A high elf well into middle age, Marelleus has lived nearly two centuries. A wizard, Marelleus spends much of his time keeping the day-to-day affairs of Castle Maure running smoothly as its Chamberlain and one of Lord Deathnor's chief advisor. Time has taught Marelleus two things; patience and the virtue of letting others take risks. The only things which ruffles his calm demeanor are dirty carpets, insufficient butter on a feast day and the like. Some feel Marelleus is overly conservative, much like an english butler. His answer, "I'll mention it to your grandchildren."

Molly - A veteran barmaid, Molly has seen her share of adventurers pass through the Green Griffon. Like most of the bar's employees, she is tougher than she looks. Standing 5'7", Molly is your typical-looking serving wench; big boobs (the original 8+8!), a cute smile, long brown hair tied back, a St. Pauli girl type dress, etc. Even though she has none of the characteristics of an adventuress, Molly has never fallen prey to the numerous sleep spells which have hammered the bar. Her excuse? "Gosh, (looking down at her boobs and the locket between them) I don't know (wide-eyed look of innocents)."

Morganna - A gypsy fortune teller, Morganna is a woman in her early forties. Morganna has kept herself in good shape, and could still turn a few heads if she chose. Her hair is blonde, though with darker roots. Her skin is tanned though a bit wrinkled with age. She spends much of her time reading fortunes in her tent in the bazaar of Greyhawk. Many have claimed her tarot cards magical, while some have branded her a witch. Whether sorceress or charlatan, she is well-loved by the simple people of the bazaar.

Ourobos - The High Priest of the Temple of Diancecht in Greyhawk, Ourobos looks something like the german version of Father Christmas, complete with leaves in his hair and a tall, thin stature. Ourobos is concerned with one thing, the cult of Diancecht in particular and the Celts in general. He is somewhat aloof toward the other temples and stays well clear of politics. He is a simple man trying to run a "simple" temple. Ourobos' attitude could be seen as mercenary, but he tries to administer the greatest amount of healing to the largest number of people while maintaining the integrity of his church. Hand-outs are fine as long as they are freely given and "earned" by need and/or worship. Unlike many other priests, Ourobos will often set his prices for curative magic based upon the recipients ability to pay (the reason many higher-level adventures avoid his services).

Quelzar - The mage of Schwartzenbruin, Quelzar has considerable magical skill despite his thirty-some years. A town wizard and gregarious socializer, Quelzar is often seen in the company of Perrenland's nobility and is well known and liked by the "movers" and the "shakers" of the Northlands. In his free time, Quelzar hires himself out on retainer, like an attorney, researching information of an arcane or historical bent for his clients as a sage. Occasionally he will even hire himself as a spellcaster, although this is rare. It has been said that this reddish-brown-haired, hazel-eyed man is the highest level active spellcaster on Oerth. Quelzar denies these allegations, refusing to comment.

Rothgar - Headmaster of the Wizard's Guild of Greyhawk. An older, somewhat portly gentleman, Rothgar has years of experience as both a tutor and wizard. His stern-yet-fatherly demeanor begets respect from his current and former pupils alike, including Treblo SkyMage. Rothagar stands 5' 11" and weighs in around 225lbs. The dome of his skull is clearly visible through the remains of his silver-gray hair. His green eyes give him a warm and friendly aura and set off the purple and green robes the wizard usually wears. Rothgar was temporarily appointed Guild Master of the Mage's Guild of Greyhawk, but Kieron has returned leaving Rothgar to his apprentices and research.

Santal Bowneck - Santal is one of the Captains of the Watch for the city of Greyhawk. Santal stands nearly 6' tall and weighs some 180lbs. In his early thirties, Santal is in good shape. An experienced guardsman, Santal has had run-ins with many adventurers and little surprises him. He is respected by his men and well liked by his superiors. Santal is easily picked out of any crowd of guardsmen by his halberd, his red hair and beard (which does not cover his chin).

Teela Shaldomar - Half elven, Teela can be easily classified as a trendy wizardess. She IS the "valley wizardess". Teela is an accomplished spellcaster, despite the fact that she spends the majority of her time shopping for clothing and jewelry, going to Greyhawk's opera and hob-nobbing with other social butterflies. Teela often frequents Under the Manticore's Wing, feeling that the Green Griffon is too rough and uncouth for anyone with culture. Although she normally appears as a 5'6" brunette with hazel-green eyes, Teela delights in altering her appearence with magic. If the colors of her features and clothing clash, either is liable to be altered.

Tritus - The high priest of Posideon in Portown, Tritus is not your typical spiritual leader. Why this man, ostensibly in his late 20's, would tie himself down to a temple is not well understood, especially since there are so few devout worshippers in the region. The temple in Portown doesn't even have any other clerics of note. Tritus is a womanizer and his arrogance in this and other matters has lead to many confrontations. Only his power as a high ranking priest of Posideon keeps him from getting his butt kicked!

Wanara Brookdale - A High Witch of Sinakad living in Kaport Bay, Wanara keeps a fairly low profile. She is not very physically imposing, being a heavy-set, grandmotherly women in her sixties. Wanara maintains a modest shop in town where she brews and sells a wide variety of potions to adventurers and townsfolk alike. If her Highland fellows know of her association with the Horned One, they do not seem to mind. Wanara is a member of the White Circle of Ningal, recently having aided in the recovery of the Staff of Law.

Warmgruel - Perhaps the best known of the Green Griffon's bouncers, this 1/2 ogre has been did his job for many years. His origins are not clear, but he lived among humans for sometime. Armed with his tremendous strength, a greatsword, a mace, studded leather armor and a shield, Warmgruel kept the peace. Not known for his intellect or speaking voice, Warmgruel never-the-less often picked out the most appropriate target for his fist or weapon. Nor was the hulking brute easily cowed, although he did seem to have great respect for gnomes. Warmgruel was killed by a banshee hunting Imhotep several years ago. The patrons of the Griffon erected a silver plaque in his honor with the simple words "No Fighting."

Wynith Kinseeker - A well-known and accomplish adventuress, Wynith retired her longsword several years ago to live a quiet life in Greyhawk. There she is a sage specializing in the lore of monsters, both common and obscure. Wynith is occasionally seen at the Fighter's Guild as well, to which she has very strong ties. Despite her years of training with sword and shield (or perhaps because of them), Wynith is very well educated, and like many other former adventurers, finds herself often in the company of the more visible and powerful denizens of the city. Among Wynith's former adventuring companions are Grimslade the Grey, Mirrana the High Priestess of Istus and Quelzar the Mage of Schwartzenbruin.

Xarella Snowbird - Xarella is a beautiful half elven sorceress living in Portown. Xarella has taken up residence in the old graveyard tower just on the western edge of town. Her only known companions there are a white owl and a carnivorous ape. Little is know about what she does in the tower or in the dungeons they connect to. Xarella is seldom seen in town, although she seems friendly. She is occasionally sought out by adventurers and has always made the attempt to answer their questions, if not successfully.
