  PostScript!

Yes, it's a page-description language. It tells a laser printer where to put ink on the paper. Macs use it. Unix uses it. Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw use it.

But it doesn't stop there.

It's a little-known fact that PostScript is really a computer programming language! That's right, you can write programs in PostScript. With variables, arrays, loops, conditionals, functions, you name it. With built-in capabilities for text fonts and graphics. And a stack.

You can write a PostScript program using any text editor. You don't need a compiler.... because PostScript isn't compiled, it's interpreted. There's a free interpreter (Ghostscript): Download it and install it on your own computer.

Here's more info on PostScript.
