NetWare Server - login script

You can use an external login script by using only INCLUDE SYS:LOGIN\SCRIPT\SCRIPT.TXT in the system login script and placing the commands in SCRIPT.TXT now you can edit the login script with any text editor you want and give anyone you want access to administer the login script.


Windows 95 long filenames numeric tail

If you have a file that is named longfilename.doc and you want 16-bit applications and DOS to display the filename as longfile.doc instead of longfi~1.doc
Start the Registry Editor (regedit.exe) and go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ control \ FileSystem
add a new binary value and name it NameNumericTail and set the value to 0

If you don't want the Windows 95 logo to appear when Windows 95 is loading, edit the MSDOS.SYS file which is located in the root directory and add logo=0 under the [Options] section.


Windows 95 easy access to start menu editor

To create an shortcut to the "advanced" start menu editor simply create an icon with the command line:
c:\windows\explorer.exe /n,/e,/root,"c:\windows\start menu",programs


Microsoft Mail - repair the message file

hold down the shift key directly after you enter the login information. the repair takes a couple of minutes on a normal size .MMF file.


Microsoft Mail - clean up the postoffice

WARNING! This is not tested with DOS clients. Make sure everyone is logged off. Go into the ADMIN program. Select Local / Storage / Delete. Enter All users, 60 days, both read and unread, R. It might help to compress the mailbags. You can now delete all .ATT and .MAI files that are older than 61 days. Before you clean the the postoffice you should make sure that everyones CMOS clock is correct otherwise the postoffice might get corrupted.

Microsoft Office 97 - installation

Make sure you are NOT supervisor equivelent when you are installing Office 97, the installation program might delete "old" files on the server even if you are installing it on a local harddisk.
