Chris colleges only adapt to circadian rythms if you schedule early. If you are an idiot like me and my roomates and got to late orientation sessions you get screwed. I've got two 8 oclocks and 2 ten oclock and no class on thursday. Both my roomates have 4 8 oclocks. I was in session 8 of ten and my roomates were in sessions 6 and 10. Now Terry who went to the first session had his earliest class at 11. Also this will be my last update until Monday because I have to go to the evil place.. Torrance. Also my dad told me today that he might not be able to get my fridge today. Damn.

I have to go back to Torrance tommorrow. Dammit!. I love it here. I can do whatever i want, whenever I want to. I've got fast bandwith. There are no chores. Torrance I'm gonna have to sleep in my brother's room if my sister took my room already and i'll have no computer, and no unlimited pepsi. Well I'll probably see Chris and there might be slightly better food. Oh well. I need to get detergent anyways.

Well today i woke up at 11:40. ate. went to some club fair. went connie's. then left there went to terry's played some q3a with daun and made fun of UCSD. Made fun of USC to terry's cousin. Then I ate again. The porkchops were good in hedrick. Then I played 4 on 4 basketball. We lost 15-12, but we were down 9-0 at one point so I think it was good. Then used up a meal to get 2 pepsis since I had the extra meal from not eating breakfast.

Well I bought my books today. It was $170 for 2 books. Thats a lot. I went to the Gap with Lynn and Connie and terry yesterday in westwood. They made me try on clothes. The pants were pretty nice but they were $38 so that's a little much. Maybe I'll buy some someday. I also saw the movie Double Jeopardy. The theatre was real nice. The movie was good too. It was that good serious movie for every once in a while. I want to see 3 kings next. I mean that movie had guns, Ice cube, Mark walhberg and George Clooney and gold in it. It'll rock. George clooney looks exactly the same as he looked in the peacemaker with the army outfit on.

Also my roomates are really cool. Tolu was really prepared. He even brought like 3 gallons of detergent. He brought a computer too. At first he wasn't but he just brought his family's second computer. It's a p2-350. So it'll could probably out quake me. He has dvd too. And scott is real cool. He's quiet though. He plays starcraft and halflife but not multiplayer... yet. The connection is awesome. I'm getting 125-300k/sec and up to 700 k/sec sometimes even. It's so fast that I was gonna download Matrix off of randy but it was too slow only 37k/s and it would have taken 8 hours. Its so cool. Randy's connection is TOO slow for me.

Well Chris came over today. I ate at Todai with my dad. That was good. He didn't feel like going to work. I also got the last of my crap for college i.e. toothbrush, comb, etc. Chris was absent. Strangely he is absent before Randy this year. I figure Chris could be absent monday and friday of every week and still get straight A's with only a minimal amount of effort. I mean Mubin Khan was absent 90 days last year and still graduated. And if he can do that, then Chris could get A's since Chris is smarter. Anyways I'm gonna move in around 8:30 am. I'm gonna meet Terry at 1pm in front of Covell Commons. If any other UCLA people are reading this and want to go with us around UCLA go ahead. Terry and Ivan are going to the swapmeet. I was thinking of going but that would mean going to school later and since Chris isn't going, so screw that. I wasn't gonna buy anything besides fans. Also I had to archive because notepad sucks and can't have more than 36k or so. And lastly,

Well I'm all packed and ready to go. I've got clothes, bathroom crap and computer. I'll actually miss the few high school kids I talk to. Well college is gonna kick ass. I think i'm not gonna do crap for at least a quarter. Just sit around and do easy work. Yesterday I tried to do more Visual C++ stuff. I'm not liking theb book I have. All it does is make you copy stuff and make it run. It's not so bad a way to learn, I am learning, but it takes to long to type. I'm actually gonna miss this place. Not really Torrance, but my house and family and relatives. I'm just so used to this life style and stuff. Well I'll see them every 3 or 4 weeks anyways.

Today I went to the DMV at 9:02 AM to get my ID. It was wednesday so it opens at 9 am. Anyways somehow it was already all full and it still took an hour. After that I walked to terry's and got my riva128. Then after Daun came, we played some q3a. Terry kicked my ass and down said I was being cheap by using the zoom and sniping him with the rail. And yes I was being cheap but it was fun knocking him into the void on q3test2. His computer works and he's broke i guess because he didn't even have $5 to pay terry for cdrs. Later we went to the store and I got my haircut. Apparently in the middle of the day only women who want perms go to the hair place, so I had to wait 45 minutes. Then I got terry to go to spires. First he was trying to buy something all cheap like $3 or something but he decided to buy like some $5 breakfast thing. I bought like a $4 hamburger and it was much better than the thing he had. It was like 3 sausages, some scrambled eggs and some nasty looking biscuits with gravy. Then I went home. My mom was home because she has to go to the hospital to get her colon examined or something and made meatballs. Chris was over and he ate one. We watched Arli$$ on HBO. It was an okay episode. That show is awesome because it is all about captialism and what I believe is the foundation of America. Then I ate like 10 more meatballs for dinner and watched the star trek season premiere which was okay.

Well today I watched Patch Adams on VCD starring robin williams. Pretty good movie I guess. Its about a guy that is excessively happy who wants to be a doctor. Also I forgot to post that Matt's computer rolled down a hill. I know this is a bad thing, but Matt called and I burst out laughing. I couldn't help it. He lost his 9gig micropolis, and jaz drive, case is ruined, and the cdroms are all scratched on the front so he's gonna return them. Anyways, imagine like 30 people. And then a computer rolling down a hill. And then matt standing there mouth wide looking like he's gonna die. Now you just don't see that everyday. Besides he's getting a new and better inwin s500 case. It's like me and terry's old a500 except with sliding doors and an extra fan mount behind the p2 cartridge.

Me and Chris also watched part of a movie called "trading favors." That is a movie that should be called "Damn lucky bastard." Also Taiwan had an earthquake. Yes this is a very bad thing, like 500 or more people died. I guess that isn't that bad considering how heavily populated taiwan is. Also memory and other product prices should be going up more because of this because of the stoppage in the lines, many dies will have to be thrown away. From what i've read TSMC, UMC are both okay. VIA suffered minor damage. Tatung is fine. I also learned today that the company AOC is also owned by a member of the Tatung family. Wierd huh terry. My dad said that tatung and formosa plastics are two of the bigger players in taiwans and surprisingly Acer is much smaller. They just borrow a lot of money like all the korean companies.

The memory prices should make a 32 or 64mb nvidia card much more expensive so that should drive up 3dfx stock since they never use as much memory. Geforce will probably die. I mean the need ddr sdram to make it have 256bit bus. If they use regular sdram then it'll be slow at only 128 bit and the memory bus will then be slower than tnt2. Plus 64mb ddr sdram will cost into the $150 range if it is even available. Also geforce has heat problems. HAHAHAHA! Die nvdia die!. Oh BTW connie this should push 128mb dimm prices up to $260 or so. I took all the tests on The Spark. I got 65% on the unintelligence test and I'm gonna die when I'm 76. I am 70% pure according to the test. Because some of the crime related things and fight related ones I had to check. Plus all the usual cheating, racial jokes, I am a good liar, the porno (hasn't everyone?), i sniffed glue and dry erase marker remover, eating food i dropped (it's clean usually right?), jaywalking a lot (me and jason used to run across hawthorne on the way to computer city a lot, I got sent a note home for doing this too much in elementary school), I've had alcohol (only champagne and wine though), and I've been in a lot of bars (me and jason got thrown out of a sports book/bar in vegas), pirating software(duh, I DO own a burner) and yes I cheated on my taxes last year (i declared all my mutual fund money as interest so that i wouldn't have to fill out form 1040a).

Well here is a picture from my orientation session at ucla. I have only emailed one of these guys since orientation. We did however exchange all our email addresses. Notice that this is an engineering group and has only one girl. I talked to her and well I don't think she's gonna make it. The only guy that I talked emailed is the white guy in the back near me. Me, the two white guys, and the Indian guy with the hat, Suha, hung out most of the time. We walked around westwood and stuff. The guy with the hat said that he could make me a laser to burn people. Also what was wierd was that both of the white guy's names were Steve. The tall asian guy in the middle smokes. He didn't go on the scavenger hunt with us and when we came back he was smoking. The asian guy near me barely speaks english. Oh yeah the white guy on the left side is good at racketball. He beat me in 3 games at the wooden center. We also played basketbell. Both guys with hats, me, the white guy on the left that i played racketball with and the indian guy next to the white guy on the left played near Reiber. There happened to be like a jillion little kids there for some basketball camp, so we had to wait. That sucked. Oh and BTW, yes I do know all these people's names.

I was just reading Connie's page and she finally realized what I realized many months ago. Someone is trying to screw us all over. That is why people who have -1230 IQs and have smoked more than the arco refinery are going to berkeley. And lastly I would like to ask you Connie, what do you mean you pulled all nighters? Me and Chris were talking about it the other day. If you were studying for say 4 hours what the hell exactly do you guys do. Do you just read the same thing over and over and over or something? I mean I always figured if you read it maybe 3 times max and still didn't understand then you were screwed so why bother. All through high school I never had to sleep past maybe 11pm. If i was up past 11pm then it was because I was on the internet or at a netparty or something. There better not be those all nighters in college.

Pretty soon everyone will be going to their seperate schools. Somehow I wish that just all my friends and I went to the same school. Even Randy and Chris can go since they're probably smart enough. The whole circle could be there. It'd be unlike high school because all those other people won't be going. Anyways, we'll still have netmeeting and ICQ. Well during the day Jason and I went to THS. We talked to Mr. Cannady. Then we went into THS and walked around, talked to Mr. Schwartz, Carter, Randy, etc. Then Compsci started and Mrs. reif actually asked us to help the people so we did. That was good. I liked helping the people, but I really think that a lot of them are gonna fail this class. Ada, Randy and Alan Kwan seemed to be doing great in the class. Everyone else looked like they were going to fail. The 4 chosen ones are left over and well they had to do classes already and well that is pretty hard, but i'm sure they'll pass the class. The stupid Torrance Unified people screwed everything up again. They don't even know how to turn on virtual memory. Damn they are stupid. Instead of just doing minimum install they went and did max install and just put in new hard drives. What morons.

Well looks like I'm not gonna get my license this summer. My mom and dad both have meetings on Wednesday, so they can't take me to the DMV. Plus my dad said that is was stupid to insure me if I wasn't gonna drive. So why get a license if you aren't gonna have insurance. There is no way i'm gonna pay for my own insurance. Its like $1200 + a year so hell no, I could buy a lot of stuff. So I'm just gonna get an ID. Plus my dad said that when he first got his license he wasn't insured either because he went back to the Philippines and the insurance company gave him all this shit because he was an uninsured "driver" for 3 years. So I don't wanna have to go through that either. I guess I'll get my license next summer if I need one to drive to a job or something.

My mom is a fucking nut. I told her that I helped Connie build her computer. So she gives me this insane lecture about "People taking advantage of you". She's saying like Connie used me to build her computer. I mean I did it as a favor. Apparently favors aren't allowed. So I say well "what if i was helping a friend move a couch or something?" She says well that is different and of course the definition of different was never expanded upon. Then I ask well what if Uncle blah asks me something about computers? well that is different too. Because I'm not doing work. And I say well I'm getting taken advantage of right, because my knowledge is being given away for "free". And she says that she is just teaching me because "so many people are out there just to use you." And I'm like "Do you think I'm a moron?" All this is because she's a paranoid psycho. Just like that check book thing. I hate these stupid ass lectures she gives me. She'll make up anything to make her retarded point. I mean what was the point anyway. Everytime I came up with a valid argument to disprove her stupid lecture she'd just say that "that's different" with no explanation.

In other news, Connies aforementioned computer runs at 563mhz.

Went to the Taiwan festival. "you can be proud of being made in Taiwan!" Anyways that was okay , I got to see Connie get her award. She didn't look particularly enthused up there. Then we went to Baja Fresh. Me, Chris, Jason, James, Lynn, and Erin. That was okay, but now i'm thinking that Baja fresh is a little overpriced. Considering there isn't anything really special about the place.

Then I went with Chris to staples and sav on. At Staple I saw these cool Imac folders. They were made of translucent plastic. Then me and Chris went to COMPUSA. We saw Jason and Jimmy on the way. They were gonna buy shoes. I bought 100 CDR for $60, 75 of which will probably go to Connie, Jason and already Terry. For $50 I got cool flat speakers. The subwoofer is okay now that I've been trying it out. It's probably 50% (yes you are asking how can you quantify this? it is a rough estimate) better than my old one. The satelites are awesome. They have probably the best mid to high frequency sound i've ever heard. Ask chris. They are much better than cambridges which are really designed only for high volume and low frequency. The low frequency is merely average because of the average subwoofer. The subwoofer is a lot better than the old one though. The old one maxed out with maxed out volume on everything still wasn't that good. These flat speakers are also capable of much louder sound and it fills the room because it emits sound from the front AND back.

Lastly I asked my parents if I could get a checkbook. Now I'd probably only use it to pay credit card bills and send money to my brokerage, but still I figured it'd be useful. Right now if I want to write a check I have to withdraw it all in cash and give it to my mom. So she makes up all this shit about me not needing one and that my reasons aren't "valid" reasons for getting a check book. Now this is just bullshit. If it is useful isn't it a valid reason? Now she says someone at college could steal my checkbook and stuff because she's a fucking paranoid bitch. I mean she's always afraid that if we open our windows with the curtain open that someone will come in at night and rob us/ kill us. And that if we put a hot dish like 35C or so on the table it'll ruin the wood of a table that we aren't going to sell or anything anyways. Now the main reason I wanted the checkbook was so that I could charge stuff and pay off the debt without her seeing what I bought and saying I wasted money because she's a cheapass. As usual my dad really didn't care/say anything until he had to support my mom. He always says it's good to support your wife because they can leave you and your kids really can't.

Well the v770 sucks. It made my other monitor look funny. And then it sucks up to much amperage from my motherboard so that the U23 component gets blistering hot. This was a known problem with the voodoo3 and my board but FIC said that even a tnt2 ultra was okay, I guess they are just morons. I don't know why I like this company so much. I'd even buy an sd-11 board if i was gonna get an athlon. Well anyway the U23 would overheat after 20 minutes or so of quake2 no matter what, with cooling, case off, case on, whatever. That was in Agp 1x. It would just die at 2x (maybe there is more power draw) and it was also the reason i couldn't overclock (obviously higher speed is proportional to current draw). So after talking to people I've gotten Ivan to buy the v770 for $55 and his voodoo2 which, since I value the voodoo2 at $45 is a $10 loss for me. Anyways I was also thinking of buying a celeron 300 and board or something like that but it would have cost $160+ and that would be cutting into the money i'm saving for athlon fund. Though it would have been faster than a k6 and v770, I wouldn't have noticed the difference betweend 46 and 60 fps at q3test. So I will probably hold on with a voodoo2 and k6-2/450 which is a good combo and buy a cheap 8mb or 4mb AGP. Maybe even a firegl1000. The max 32bit 2d a 4meg can do is 1152x768 which is what i run, and it can do 1280x1024x24 as well. The 8 meg is obviously more. If you want to find out what your card can do: Plus in numbers like so: 1024(plug in here)x768(here)x32bit(and here)/8bits/1024/1024 = how many megs you need.

School is gonna kick ass. It will be 7.5 months or less. think about it. October to mid-june is 8.5. Minus 3 weeks for winter, 1 week for spring, other holidays and the days off for finals and it's less than 7.5 months. Plus at only an average of maybe 4.5 hours of school a day, well this rules!!

Chris is over right now. I hate VIA because me damn motherboard won't work with 2x agp on the tnt2. Usually works though. Plus there might be a heat or power related problem, I still don't know. Two posts in one day?!?!? Well I was reading randy's page and saw his little rant about comp sci outlines. Well you can blame it all on the class 2 years before you which included me, matt, jason, jeff barlow, mike chen, jared knowles, melissa mange, ivan shum, rina yi, kenzo, dennis lee, mark kim, steve kim, and last and definitly least juney. Anyways before outlines were mandatory reif would just write shit on the overhead. This was her definition of teaching though it was exactly the same as in the book. This was back in the Pascal days. Anyways she noticed me and Matt one day not taking notes. I mean it was really simple stuff. So she got all mad and said something like "if you guys don't take notes then i'm not gonna write any for you guys to read." Me and matt were like "okay whatever". Rina was very vocal about her need for actual notes from Reif which we found funny that anyone would want reifs notes. So we obliged so that rina could get her notes. Anyways what we did was scribble on paper and draw happy faces. Me and jeff would have a contest everyday to see who had the most. She never checked the notes so this was okay. I think that she probably eventually found out. And then after the pizza incident I think she hated us all. Then mandatory outlines were forced.

So randy you can blame all of us for the notes you have to take. But why did you do them? Didn't you see us doing them at lunch really quickly last year in Pang's? Have you learned nothing from us? I expected more laziness from you Randy. I mean especially with all those other people in class. You could just copy from them.

Well today I traded stocks and bought a couple pairs of pants. I can't believe how much clothes cost.

The high school kids all seemed to love going back to school. They talk about it so passionately. You can just feel the love they have for THS. All the pride. I know I did.

Now take that and make the opposite of it and you get the truth. I think I've convinced everyone that Comp Sci is the way to go. Even if it is Mrs. Reif. It can't get any worse than spanish. I mean sitting on your ass talking about computers all day, and drinking coke. That was what I did last year and I got an A. I only got a 4 though. Damn test should be easier this year. The questions were incoherant which can be expected for a first year test. I spent so much time on that first free response because I didn't know what the hell they wanted to do . Ask any of the Compsci A people and they'll tell you that that last question sucked, it was the same as my first question. Anyways I'm sure they'll reword that. I spend like 40 minutes on that one because I spend 20 minutes reading it and with only 1 hour 40 minutes for the free response most of us were in a real rush to finish the other 5 questions.

Apparently Ada might major in engineering. If she does at UCLA she'll have 1 quarter of english and no foreign language. Yes the perks of engineering. Hell you get preferred housing too. All of us engineers are in suites / sunset with our own bathrooms. Then we get paid big time out of college with possibly even job offers after our junior years. And those letter and science people have to LOOK for jobs. HAHAHAHA! (I can see Connie cursing me right about now) Ada said something about bio engineering which they do offer at UCLA. I think its real good for there to be more women engineers. BTW all of you high school kids go to UCLA. I command you. They have good food dammit. Oh yeah and USC suck. So does Berkeley (*edited* opps I forgot you go there peter). And UPenn, except Wharton (*edited* ok I'll make a concession for Kyle)while I'm at it. Oh yeah since I'm really bored look below.

Also I would like to add that college is going to be very very easy first quarter. I'm taking Math31b which is calculus with integration, shell and disc method mostly. So Mrs. Taylor taught that to us after the AP test so it should be easy. Chem20A is gonna be easy because for me Chem is easy. And well I'm gonna take introduction to C++ and since I've been taking Computer Science classes for 2 years, well I was figuring I might as well not go to the discussions for this. Anyway I'm dreading 2nd quarter because I'm taking 50% more units. That isn't the bad part because most of the classes are still math type classes. The bad part is that I have to take my one English class. Now I'm thinking of taking a pass/fail on that class so that it won't count against my GPA. That class will suck. Not because I'm horrible at English, but because I don't like writing papers more than a page long or reading stupid ass books that I don't find interesting. And I know that is the type of book that i'll be reading.

Well the GeForce256 looks like it's just pure marketing by Nvidia and will suck. According to an article at beyond 3d.com the gforce won't be "changing the world" because , 1. cube mapping is still to complex to do , they'd need a 6x faster card to do it so it's a useless feature. 2. lightmaps are much more easy to implement than hardware lighting so that is also stupid. 3. No games use the hardware transformation yet, and even if they did the geforce doesn't have enough fill rate to make a difference. 4. It doesn't support full screen antialiasing which actually would look better (voodoo4 does). 5. the fill rate isn't much more than a tnt2 ultra so it'll probably be slower. 6. Independant benchmarks show p3-550 running 23 fps at q3demo1 1600x1200x16bit, nvidia says that geforce can do 33fps. which would be right in line with the fill rate increase

Also if you read the interview on FiringSquad firingsquad with the 3dfx guy scott sellers it makes a good point onto why the voodoo4 will be a better card because it's fill rate is a lot higher which is a limitation of current cards which is why quake 3 won't run any faster no matter how fast an athlon is on it. And also it has t-buffer / full screen anti alias which makes every game look better by getting rid of the jagged edges by blurring. Nvidia must be all hype. The original TNT was gonna run at 125/125 and it ended up running 90/90. Same with the tnt2 ultra at 150 instead 175.

Apparently Iomagic read my posts on usenet about the tnt2 m64. I will now consider buying their stuff again. Here is the message:

the TNT2 Ultra... just not the performance. Also the card
can be overclocked to a pretty high level (which we
obviously can't promote). So to say this is an inferior
product is ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE. If you want spend $200 to
get the Ultra... That is your prerogative...

	Also we communicated to CompUSA that this card was a M64
version. However, they neglected to put that information in
their add on Sunday. Unfortunate for us! Believe me we have
heard much grief on this, including nVidia... which didn't
like the fact that their TNT2 card was advertised at $79.

	So the bottom line is that we were not intentionally
misleading people. Is the box misleading. Yes, and No. The
TNT2 M64 is marketed by nVidia as a TNT2 product. We had
every right to advertise it as a TNT2. Should we have put
M64 on the front... maybe. I am taking corrective action...
