Many diferent starters exist. Some work as part of the Window Manager while others are independent. Each one uses a different file format to describe the list of applications available.Trying to organize this mess I have written a "standard" (not yet one, you decide) file format. This format alows us to organize our applications and use then in any Window Manager we like. See a description of the format HERE. This format is not perfec, any comments are welcome. If you have ideas to make it better please send them in.
Some benefits of an Application Starter Standard:
GO UP
- Instalation programs can update the list automatically when new programs are added or removed from the system, because the format and location is known
- Create a common way to work for users
- Make the exchange of lists possible
For those involved in writting an Application Starter
New application starters are welcome. New ideas, an improved standard format is also welcome. So if have any contribution let me know, and I will add it tho this page. For QT Programmmers: I have include the source code for QStart. If you want just improve it.
