The April 21, 1997 issue of Computer world carried the article "Web makes hospital 'net work" by Thomas Hoffman. MWM felt that the article was an example of "misjournalism" and contacted John D. Halamka MD, who told us that the reporter took one hour of discussion and condensed it into two confusing sentences.
We reproduce Dr. Halamka's statement.
"The term 'closed system' referred to our pre-M environment which was MAGIC. MAGIC had no client server tools and no Internet accessibility.
The move to Intersystems M opened our data structures with such products as Intersystems Visual M, M/Weblink and KB Systems KB_SQL.
I have worked closely with Intersystems to evaluate and benchmark their products, including M/Weblink which works quite well. For a demonstration of the various approaches to web-enabling our M data, check out http://freya.bidmc.harvard.edu/careweb/legacy.htm."
