Mirian Gauci is the main reason for hearing this set. Although not a memorable Suor Angelica she sings well enough and copes with the finale which is rather difficult. The Principessa is also fine, sung by a true contralto.

The conducting is good, bringing a lot of details (I really liked it). The recording brings both singers and orchestra too close but also highlights the details. The supporting cast is second-class (most of the singers sound 70 years old). This CD by the way is low price in the States and it's worth buying.

The recommended version is still Renata Scotto (with Marilyn Horne as the principessa) with Maazel conducting. Well recorded and Scotto is Suor Angelica, I just listened to the finale again and wanted to burst into tears.
