It's been a long week, but at least I have some good news...and a ray of hope to look forward to. I got my car back yesterday, and it smells great! I'd had it towed to a body shop last Thursday. They spent the next week tearing the car apart. First to look for my dead rat, second to clean it all out and remove the horrible smell. I'd begun to lose hope of it ever smelling good again, but these guys were amazing.

My car is now known as "The Rat Mobile". (lol) At least that's what they're calling it at the Chevy body shop. When I picked up the car on Thursday, the manager told me they'd found the dead rat in the air conditioning vents on my side of the car. Then they'd removed all the seats and carpeting, and installed a de-ionizing machine in the car. He said they used these machines in motels to remove the tobacco smell from "smoking rooms". Whatever they did, the car smells, and looks better than it did when it was new....five years ago.

While my car was in the shop, being dismembered, the exterminator started to work on the attic. I'd been parking the rental car in the driveway, just so I didn't infect THAT car! Joe the rat man set out several traps in the attic above the garage. After a few days, sure enough, the house was filled with the smell of dead rats. Joe came back out and removed two of them from the attic. He then returned 2 days later to check the traps again. One of the traps had missing bait, while another trap had been sprung. As of the this afternoon, none of the traps had been sprung or touched. Joe said this was good news.

The company Joe works for can rat proof your home exterior for the grand total of $800, and it's warranted for only a year. When he told me how much this cost I think I must have gone pale because he quickly said he'd do the job for only $500. I explained ot him that both my Mother and I lived on social security, and that $500 was WAY out of our limits. He did tell me what needed to be done however to rat proof the exterior. My niece's husband was nice enough to say he'd take care of it for me. So hopefully by Sunday we won't have to worry about getting any more visitors of the furry variety.

For the last several months I've been lucky enough to meet two wonderful people. Both have become not only good friends to me, but something more that I can't put into words. Seeing them online, talking to them, playing a game with them has taken on a new meaning for me. Debbie is warm, outgoing, compassionate, understanding, and like family to me. The little sister I never had. Bill is all of these things to me, and more. Which shouldn't be too hard to believe considering they are brother and sister.

In the last month Debbie has lost her beloved husband to cancer, tried to help her father recover from an accident that left him with 2 broken legs...1 broken arm...and 3 broken ribs. He's since had a stroke, and his prognosis is not good. Now to add to the burden she already carries, Debbie's older brother Bill...and my VERY good friend...is in intensive care with West Nile Virus. The doctors don't know what will happen now.

I'm not real big on professing my religious beliefs or feelings. But I ask anyone who comes across this entry to please pray for Debbie, Bill, and their father. Debbie and I try not to think what it would be like without Bill, and I hope to God we'll never have to find out. Thank you!
