Living in Florida I've been the recipient of "Bush" politics for the last year. It's down right scary how much the two Bush brothers are alike in their idea of government. After it was announced that 20 inmates on death row were actually innocent, Jeb Bush continued to sign a law that would cut the number of times an inmate could appeal. Even members of his own party pointed out to him, that if the law he signed had been in effect, those 20 innocent people would have long since been put to death. Our esteemed governor has also done away with affirmative action. Allowing women and minorities the same chance at a job or an education as any white man. When George W. Bush says that he "trusts Americans" to invest our own social security dollars, how come he doesn't trust a woman to choose what is best for her own body? Then there are the famous tax cuts. How many of you out there remember Ronald Reagan's famous "trickle down theory"? I do, and the only "trickle" I received from his tax cuts for the extreemely rich was not in monetary figures. It was somewhat like being a fire hydrant with a dog passing by. I remember when I lived in South Carolina, our neighbor was a staunch Republican. We were having a conversation about the Clinton administration when he says to me, "what have the Democrats ever done for me!" My friend stood beside me and said to the neighbor, "you're collecting Social Security aren't you?" Looking back over the years at the former Presidents we've had, I personally find few Republicans that have ever helped the working man in this country. They seem to be more interested in helping large corporations, drug companies, special interest groups, and the wealthy. I hope when November 7th rolls around this week, that you all will get out and vote for the man who has the more experience, interest in the working man of this country, and the man who will do the best job for ALL of us, not just the rich. Vote for Al Gore! I think it's more than coincidental that the only county in Fla. that has a different type of voting card is Palm Beach county. Let's face it, the largest concentration of Democrats and Jewish people live in Palm Beach county. To think that survivors of the holocaust have been tricked into voting for a man that embraces the ideology of Hilter sickens me. To know that there were certain areas in Florida where African Americans were told they couldn't vote sickens me. To know there were people of Cuban dissent in Miami that were also told they couldn't vote sickens me. To know that 1700 votes were thrown out, and not counted in this election sickens me. With all of the voting irregularities, and civil right discriminations, you would think the judges in this county would leap to their feet to see justice done. The only way we will ever see justice done will be to have another election, if not in Florida itself, then most definitely in Palm Beach county! Lately I've spent a lot of time reading. In the past week I've read two books. Both of the books have reminded me of a story someone sent me once. The story is about 3 men, one named Love, one named Wealth, and the third man named Happiness. In this story the three men are walking along a road. They come upon a farmer working in his field. They tell him that he can choose which of the 3 he would like to have....Love, Wealth or happiness. The farmer ponders his choice and decides that he would like to have Love. The three men tell the farmer he has made a wise choice. In choosing Love to enter his life the farmer has also been given Wealth and Happiness. The three go hand in hand. Life without love is like a desert, dry, lifeless and quiet. No matter how happy we may think we are, nothing in our life can make us as happy as being loved, and loving another. | ||||||
