Infoseek (pretty fast and intelligent, though not most powerful)
AltaVista (very powerful, but it doesn't seem to be too intelligent; if you are getting too much hits, try to use their search-refining features)
AltaVista - Northern Europe
(searching in various languages, including Russian; when searching in KOI8, it makes sense to use all uppercase instead of lowercase letters -- guess why :-)) )
Reference (USENET,
mailing list, and Web forum searcher; I don't think it can compare to DejaNews, but it used to see some articles not seen by Dejanews; also, it allows a subscription by email).
Yahoo (categorized search; probably the most famous search engine)
Corvis (search Russian Usenet, including lots of fido7.* newsgroups)
Newzbot - search for NNTP servers allowing free access to a particular newsgroup. (You often have to try several servers before you get what you need).
FAQ Finder (if
you wonder what is FAQ, it means a collection of answers to some frequently asked questions).
www.astalavista.box.sk - Lots of helpful info on software registration. Don't use it if you are an honest person.
