May 5/04 It has come to my attention that there is a potential problem with printing your playslips with a laser printer. Apparently the ink and/or other material on the paper can be melted by the heat of the laser and be deposited on the drum head or other internal parts of the print mechanism. This is not desirable.

Although the program technically works fine with lasers, this warning must be issued and it is recommended that you print your slips with a "jet" type printer instead. The very cheapest ones on the market will get the job done and can be purchased new for well under $50.

This is not a fault in the software, but is a problem that is inherent to both laser printers in general and the type of ink that is used on many lottery slips. The same holds true for any pre-printed forms that are fed through a laser printer.

Known Issues

Playslip Pal has been extensively tested with a variety of printers and operating systems during development. Every effort has been made to ensure that it works properly. However, there are a few known bugs to be aware of.

There are literally hundreds of different lottery selection slips in use around the world. I have direct access to many of them, but certainly not all. There are some slips in particular that are known to not work with the program as of this version. They are:

U.S.A.

Massachusetts Big Game 5/52
Michigan Rolldown 5/33

May 2/04 The problem with these slips has now been fixed. See below

Canada

Western Canada 649, Super7, WC49

Unfortunately, these slips have a singularly bizarre design that I have encountered nowhere else. Unless this unwieldy layout is changed at some point in the future, I doubt that the program will ever be able to handle them.

UK

Euro Millions

These slips will work OK for printing the 5 main numbers. However, the results checker for this game isn't going to work properly until the program is updated. I completely overlooked the fact that this game draws 2 bonus numbers instead of just1. The same will be true for any other game that draws 2 bonus numbers such as those in Australia.

Tips

Tip #1
You may easily keep or discard whichever slip definition files you choose by using Windows Explorer to navigate to the "Defs" folder located in "file:///C:/Program Files/Playslip Pal/Defs". Open the folder and delete any definition files that you don't require. The next time you start the program, only the games that you actually play will show in the file list box.
Tip #2
Many modern printers have a built-in "Print Preview" function in their control software. If you activate this feature while creating a new slip definition file, you will see a graphical screen preview of where the marks are printing before this information is actually sent to the printer. If the preview doesn't look right, you can simply cancel the print job and save both slips and ink.

Program Update Version 1.0502 May 10/04

This is a fix specifically for Australian lottery slips that have 14 selection panels. Thanks to Frank Tomaszewski for submitting the problem. This fix was made in less than 24 hr. Download the zip file below and extract the program file to your Playslip Pal folder. It will replace the original file. Numbers will now print properly. This is the 2nd update after another problem was reported and fixed.

As a side benefit, this update also fixes the problem with playslips for the Massachusetts 6/52 Big Game. Those slips will now print properly and a definition file for this game is now available below.

Please note that the above contains an updated version of the program file only and is not required unless you play the games noted above.

New Playslip Definition File May 2/04

This is a file for the Australian 6/45 lottery played in NSW and has 14 selection panels. Thanks again to Frank Tomaszewski for kindly providing this definition. If you can use this playslip, simply unzip the contents to your Playslip Pal "Defs" folder.

Questions, Comments or Bug Reports?

If you experience any problems with installing or running the program, printing problems or find any bugs in the software, please notify me so that I can fix it. Please try to include as much information and detail as possible in the email. A message that simply says "I can't install it" or "It doesn't print properly" is a waste of time. It's next to impossible to help unless the problem is fully described.

What Is Supported?

Basically anything to do with the Playslip Pal program itself such as installation or runtime errors and creating playslip definition files. Please read the help file fully before submitting a problem. The answer to your question or the solution to your problem can probably be found right there.

What Isn't Supported?

Please don't ask for help with things that are totally unrelated to Playslip Pal such as:

  1. Basic Windows operations and simple file system management
  2. How to create a simple text file
  3. Instructions for using other lottery software products or applications like MS Excel

Questions dealing with any of the above will not receive a response.
