I've had several prospective Webring members ask if they could put their link to the Webring on its own separate webpage, or on a page that they use to list the talkers they hang out on. I'd like to post this explanation as to why I cannot accept those types of links for the webring.
The idea of the Webring is to form a community of people with a common interest. In our group, the interest is hanging out on talkers. When a person travels through the Webring for our group, the idea is that they see your web page and perhaps start talking to you via a talker or e-mail because they liked your web page.
If the Webring is on a separate page with a link back to your homepage, it makes it difficult for the person viewing the ring to get back to the Webring when they are finished looking at your page. This process needs to be as simple as possible.
If the Webring is on a page that just links to other talkers, it really does the person using the ring no good. For the most part, the people using the ring already hang out on the talkers, and therefore wouldn't be interested in a page of links to talkers. Also, let's face it - how interesting a Webring would it be if we had a linkup of pages that all looked pretty much alike?
I created this Webring with the hopes of bringing together the talker users who have web pages, and even those who don't, but who browse our Webring. I want to maintain a high amount of integrity in this ring, so I will not be allowing links to be made to sites that fall into either of the above categories.
I am ALWAYS looking for new ideas, so please contact me if you think of anything
that would improve this Webring.
