My first week with Elder Slater showed me the type of person he really was.  I had just come from the most productive area in the mission.  I left behind a lot of friends, and to top it all off in just 3 days it was my birthday.  I knew no members here so it looked as if I was going to spend it with my new companion.  I was turing 21 too!  I don't know how he pulled it off but Elder Slater arranged a surprise party for me at Sister Smit's house.  Sister Smit was the missionary mom of the area.  What was so amazing was Elder Slater's poise and quick thinking.  Being with someone 24 hours a day can make it difficult to plan any type of surprize party.  I really thought we were picking up Elder Bachrach to give him a ride so he could give a lady a blessing!
