Kingsview Drive Window and Door Reno Aug 2005

A detail web log of the installation of 22 windows and 3 doors in my house on Kingsview Drive in Bolton Ontario.

It is here that I will track the progress and capabilities of both the supplier and installer for this $15,000 work.

The resulting web-log, good or bad will be left online for others to watch and learn. Hopefully I will not be taking one for the team and get screwed.  If this happens, i will use every means to seek remedy.

Aug 9/2005 :  met with sales rep (SR) , selected product and paid $3000 deposit, planned for 36 month financing on $12,000 (chickenfeed)

Aug 10/2005: Got a call from sales rep (SR) at 11:30 telling me the application should take only an hour and should be no problem.  Never heard from him again on Wed, so I examined contract for cancellation clause.

Aug 11/2005:  9:30 Got a call (SR) telling me we were approved for $4,000,  perhaps the lender is retarded, the amount required was $12,000.  Start all over again, checked credit rating, impeccable as predicted. TDL %21, no credit or income issues.  So WTF??? SR indicated his displeasure with the situation.

Aug 11/2005 11AM Told by SR we should defer for 12 months.  Fill out some more forms (getting that feeling that we should excersize the right cancel contract).  I dont like jumping through hoops, especially for suppliers who don't seem very interested in my business.  There are lots and lots of Window and Door companies calling every week, perhaps another would like my business better.  SR again indicated his displeasure with the situation

Aug 11/2005 12PM Someone else calls me back (not SR) telling me we are approved for $12,000, Duh!  thats less than our monthly gross income, I still don't understand why this took so long. (not sure what happened to SR)
Now that this partucular circle jerk in completed, we are told a supplier will come by and measure our windows and doors in 10 days or so.

Aug 11/2005 9PM Watched Holmes on Homes, did the window episode today.  After watching that fiasco, perhaps I should call him to do this window renovation and cancell the contract with XXX.

Aug 12/2005 11AM:  Called asking about changing vinyl trip for wood trim, SR ok with this and noted request.

Aug 15/2005 11AM:  Called to confirm change to wood interior trim. SR returned call within 2 hours and noted the change request and told me there would be no problem.  Well done, satisfied customer.  Installer wants to come today, wow, I thought it was going to be 10 days.

Aug 15/2005 1:00 PM Installer showed up to measure windows and take details, windows turned out to be more difficulat due to the original installation method.  Called installer manager and was told there was concern about trashing the drywall around the old windows, I told them to fit the windows to the rough in opening (2x4's) and not worry about cheap and trivial drywall repairs.   The old windows were installed with the drywall overlapping the interior frame of the window.  This was the cheap way in the 80's but makes installing new windows a messy affair.  Consequently the opening appears 7" smaller.  Not acceptable, I want the windows fit to max size, who gives a shit about drywall repairs, any idiot can do them.  Cudos to the installation manager for thinking about customer satisfaction, and well done to the guy doing the measurement noting the walls in the LR were painted the day before.

Remeasure due to happen on Wed Aug 17th.  They want to make sure it is exactly right (this is a good thing).
