Well, forget it at least according to a University of Florida history Professor Michael Gannon says historical records prove it was the Spanish and not the Pilgrims who first celebrated Thanksgiving in the New World.
That would have been 56 years before the Pilgrims in Plymouth. Of
course, that's a little hard for some folks to swallow. Gannon says
in Massachusetts, he's known as "the Grinch who stole
Thanksgiving."

He says the
first Thanksgiving feast was in St. Augustine, Florida, in 1565.
