Hello. My name is Michael O'Brien. I have recently graduated with a PhD from the department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of New Mexico. I created this page as a help for people who need to create scientific documents, either for journals or classes. Here you can find information about tools which I have used for creating scientific documents, and some special packages that I put together to make Microsoft Word more suitable for preparing scientific documents.
I have also recently added a guide to making Portable Document Format (PDF) files. PDF files are becoming more and more widespread every day. Some journals are now only accepting submissions in PDF format. It is possible to create high quality PDF files without using Adobe Acrobat. I explain exactly how to do this in Windows or Linux.
