TV / Video Troubleshooting ( for dummies ).
FAQ ( Frequently Asked Questions )
Q. I can watch TV stations clearly but video is poor. What's wrong?
A. This could be a tuning problem. The best way to tune your TV and video is to disconnect the 'RF in' cable from the video while leaving the 'RF out' cable connected to the TV. Put a known good tape into the VCR and press play. From your TV make a channel search until it locks in to the tape playing in your VCR. If it is still not clear try the fine tuning buttons on your TV set. Now that you have a clear picture* re-connect the 'RF in' cable of your VCR, if at this time the picture goes poor again, then you will have to find a new channel where to watch your videos. Finding a new channel for your video is not a standard process but I'll go on to explain the most common way. First find out the RF tuning range of your video, in most cases you can find this in the back of you VCR. There you should see a little hole that when peeping inside it you will see a little brass screw head (see photo below ). This is the screw you will be turning to find a new channel, but first see what is its range. Then set your TV on a blank channel (grains only) but this must be within the range of your video. When all is set, make sure the 'RF out' cable is connected to your TV and that the VCR is playing a good video, start turning that little screw on the VCR until you see the playing video on your screen, adjust till you get best view, this may be very critical but you can then fine tune it from your TV. When all is ready make sure that your TV memorized this new channel.
Q. OK so all this talk, but how do I make a channel search on my TV?
A. Well every TV has its own configuration so it's impossible to give specific instructions, but there is one solution to all this and that is using a dedicated video to TV cable. With this all this 'RF in/out' cabbage will be eliminated. Just go the your nearest electronics store with the make and model numbers of your TV and VCR and he'll give you the right cable. With this set up, you will see video playback at its best and if your TV and video are stereo models then you will be getting also the best of stereo sound. Did you know, RF connections do not support stereo sound.
I'll be putting up photos as soon as I have them ready.
To be continued.* if this is not the case, replace the TV / Video RF cable with a known good one, if the picture is still poor get professional assistance..
