NATURISM VS. STREAKING
One time in the forum at Streaking.org, a college student posted a request for information about nudists and streakers. Mainly he wanted the where, why, what got them started, etc. The information was to be used for a speech in one of his classes. I think it's a great topic especially if he breaks down incorrect myths about these lifestyles and shows it in a positive way.
I responded with my definitions of nudism and streaking. These, of course, are my opinion and not set in stone. Some people have different definitions entirely. I should point out that my definition of streaking does not include those who expose themselves in a lewd way such as public masturbation. That kind of behavior is exhibitionism and should never be done because the general public will always associate that kind of behavior with all nudists/naturists/streakers. The more non-sexual it is, the less likely people will be offended and the less likely legal problems could arise.
My preference is, of course, naturism and simple everyday nude living. I have no real desire to expose myself to people who arent' expecing nudity. If I did it could come back to me police-wise, especially in this rather conservative part of the country. I place a very high value on the places I go nude, so I don't want to draw unnecessary attention to those places and possibly one day run into somebody who wants to harass or attack me, or police who have increased their patrols of the area. I respect cops a lot, but I do not respect their every-naked-person-is-a-perverted-criminal attitude. They, and the rest of our conservative society, have to learn that there is no harm in nudity.
Hi Alonso,
Great choice for a speech! Very bold topic, especially if you're adamant in showing nudity in a positive light rather than upholding the common negative stereotypes. I for one don't find your questions in any way disrespectful. I hope we're able to help you.
I don't have a lot to say about streaking. My personal definition of streaking, which may differ from that of others here, is this: a person gets naked and purposely shows him/her self to other people for the specific reason of shocking/entertaining/disrupting them. A defining example that comes to my mind is the streaker running down the stairs and out the door of a college auditorium during a class, or who runs naked out onto a sports field during play. Both of these often result in a continued negative view of streakers, nudists, naturists, or anybody else who prefers to not wear clothes.
I myself am exactly that: a nudist/naturist/person who perfers to not wear clothes. When I go outdoors nude, it's not with the intention of being seen nude or shocking people. In fact, I'd prefer to not be seen, to avoid any possibility of an uptight anti-nudist calling the police on me for "indecent exposure" [or harassing me on their own]. Granted, every place I go nude has some slim chance of being seen (if another person is in the right place at the right time and looking in the right direction); I have the same risk by going nude indoors (meter readers outside the windows for example).
When I go nude outdoors, it's for the freedom and comfort, pure and simple. Now, there have been a couple of occasions where I intentionally let myself be visible while nude, all of those being to test reactions of the general public or being when it would just have looked stupid if I stopped to dress or run and hide. I've had mixed reactions from that: usually I get no visible reaction at all, but one time I had a car turn around after passing me while I was running nude in a heavy rain at night. I did that not to shock or offend, but to see what a random person seeing a nude person at a random location would do; "test the waters", as it were. [That might be called streaking.]
I have done a few things that some people here might consider streaking. Again, I personally just call it naturism. I used to walk back on trails on land behind my house in the middle of the day while nude, out in the open and visible to the treeline. I used to go further on these trails at night, walking about a half mile away from my clothes wearing only shoes (this trail cuts through 2 housing developments and stops short at a third one). I've walked and jogged nude down my street almost to the corners (at night). I've ridden my bike nude (at night), the longest time being this summer when I went nearly all of 8.8 miles nude, from home to a park for skinnydipping and back home. [Since this post I've gone over 12 miles.]
I've seen this kind of nudism quite often in this forum, where people are outdoors enjoying nature in their natural state, with no real intention of being seen or offending people. For me, going nude outdoors has been a natural extension of my nudism, which used to be limited to in the house. It is incredibly comfortable, relaxing, and freeing to be nude outdoors (and indoors as well); nude truly is our natural state.
I hope this has been helpful.
