100 Years of Solitude is the best book of Marquez.

This book is trying to understand the reasons behind these two basic human behaviors. Brings a new definition to what laughter and forgetting are. The things that we laugh may not always be so amusing and the things that we forget may not always be unimportant.

Once again, you will meet very interesting people in this book. Try to understand them. They will help you to understand yourself.

However I think Milan Kundera inserted too much eroticism in this book and most of the times I found them out of context. Also this book has more political motives compared to his other works. These are two main subjects I do not like in novels, but still they do not prevent this book from being a good novel.

In Immortality, Milan Kundera is taking you a trip in time and space. You find yourself sitting in the same house by Goethe or running at night in a Parisian street, where strange professors perform childish acts. This is a novel about people trying to go beyond their limits and when they make it, Mr. Kundera leaves us the judgment of what success means...

Scores very high in my "Best Books" list.

You should read this book once. And when you finish it you can play a substitution game.

Here are the main elemnts of the substituion game : the boy, the treasure, the Alchemist, the journey. If you substitute correct words then this small able turns into a guide.

A very good reading until the last two chapters. When you are wondering why the book came to an end and there are still some pages left Mr. Kundera makes his trick. He surprises you. He takes you from one place in time and space to the other and then you realize the magic in his story-telling. In two paragraphs he shows you that thing may not be as they seem. Actually this is not a new idea. But his style makes the difference and this simple idea that we take for granted everyday starts to penetrate your brain. Read the book, then try to apply this philosophy to your life and the way you judge about people and events. You will start to see a different world.

In his search, he finds himself in a mystical world, guided by the newspaper articles written by his brother-in-law Jelal. In this magical trip his road crosses many times with gansters, executioners, dictators, photographers, retired soldiers, grocers, Jelalettin Rumi and other strange bunch of people you cannot even dream of in such a book. It is amazing diversity of characters collected in one volume. The only other books I know which can do this are encyclopedias.

This is the most complex book I have ever read. First time I have read this book was four years ago. Then I read some books about mystisizim, philosophy and literature and then re-read this book last summer. I realised how much I have missed in the first reading. Then I read a whole book consisting essays about this book and then I saw that I missed more than half of the hidden connections in the second pass as well.

If you are planning to go for this book : BEWARE. YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO FINISH IT. It is a very famous book in Turkey and only one out of ten readers finish it. (My own statistics from my own friends. I know nine other guys who skipped the book after reading one or two chapters.)

A university student reads a book called "The New Life" and leaves everything behind to look for the new life promised in the book.

He is accompanied by an "angel" in this journey. He and Angel try to solve the mystery of new life in a magical world of intercity buses, traffic accidents, sugar candies, children books, Zenith watches, shaving soaps, secret meetings and other unusual items and places.

A remarkable work from Pamuk. However, for those who do not know lifestyle of Turkish people (outside holiday resorts), scenes may be very hard to visualise. But still, I believe a serious novel reader can enjoy every line.

Read carefully. Try to figure out who is master and who is slave.

Unlike other Pamuk books, this one is easy to read and reletively easy to understand.

In Turkish we have a saying for such books. "Doldurus" (filling-up) means, telling people things thay normally should not do and making them believe that they can do it. The "self-help" books of Bach are the best "doldurus" books around.

This is a nice reading but be carefull in applying it to your life.

This book is the best example of "self-help" literature. After reading the book you will believe that you can walk on water. Make sure that you learn to swim first. Just in case!

In this book, Kafka is using the idea of turning into an insect to show what will happen to a person if he stops being his usual self. Whether such a change is voluntary or involuntary, it is usually not well recieved by other people.

However in this book, Kafka, with his usual pesimistic mode, telling this idea from a very striking mode.

However, this trial is not an ordinary one, the charges are not obvious and the interrogations, the courtroom and the trial is somewhat extraordinary.

An interesting example of Kafka's style. A dark and depressive book with an incredible style so that you cannot put aside.

At the end, you will end up wondering the meanings of the symbols. My best guess for the meaning of "the Trial" is the life, viewed from a pessimistic point of view by Kafka.

In 1984 , Orwell is describing a society where everthing is controlled by the rulers and people should live in a world of false illusions. Everything, even the past, is tailored to reflect a perfect world, but the reality is far from it.

A depressing novell and many derivatives (and the novel itself) are filmed by Holywood. But still, the original has the quality.
