Just saw The World is Not Enough, and I am a tad upset. The
reviews have been far too kind, and I would just as soon have
waited til cable and change the channel.
Denise Richards, previously known only to me as the Breastjob
Too Brainless for Starship Troopers, is a nuclear physicist?
Jasmine Bleeth was busy?
But even assuming a Bond babe with a double-digit IQ, the end
result wouldn't have been all that improved. The story dragged
interminably, particularly in the first half hour after the
opening.
The villain was dull, gloomy, milquetoast mild, and generally
indistinguishable from his henchman--I often had trouble figuring
out who was who in the shoot 'em ups. He was so repulsive--and I
mean that in the worst possible way--that I found it amusing that
he was impotent. Ha! No sex for you, you surly little shit.
Surely not the intended effect.
Sophie Marceau was delectable eye-candy, and gave a fairly
decent performance. Nice clothes, too. Dench was fine, as far as
it goes, but the story let her down. Given this is the one time
that M is actually involved in the plot, I find the waste pretty
unforgiveable.
Brosnan was also okay, but seemed almost irrelevant. Brought
down by those around him. He's a pretty lad, though.
I know some people will go no matter what, and I wouldn't try
to stop you. Fencesitters, give it a pass.
