Administration
Thread Types
Open
If you have a login, you can create an open thread. Open threads have no
owner, the thread creator has no special privileges. Any user with a valid
login can post in it. Topic is driven by consensus; folder and forum administrators
will resolve disputes as needed.
Hosted
Any user with a valid login is eligible to request a hosted thread. A hosted
thread is "owned" by the host; folder and forum administrators defer to the
host provided that the thread policies are consistently enforced. Any user
with a valid login can post in the thread, with the understanding that the
thread host can move or delete posts that violate the stated policy.
Host privileges are authorized by forum or folder administrators. A request
for host privileges will be assessed based on the need to manage tone and
content. The host will be required to define tone and content prior
to thread creation.
Access by Request
Access by Request threads are managed by either a host or the folder administrator.
The purpose of a requested access thread is to allow for a more focused
and managed discussion without requiring constant maintenance.
Any user with a valid login who meets the participant criteria must be admitted
upon request. The participant criteria is defined and approved prior to thread
creation. Access denial is reviewed by the folder or forum administrator,
if required.
All users can read access by request threads.
Restricted Threads
Restricted threads are blocked to any non-authorized users. Criteria for
restricted threads is on a case by case basis.
Host Performance Criteria
A hosted or access by request thread must remain focused on the subject matter.
"Regulars" can't use it as a haven or a chat thread. Any violations will
result in the thread being returned to open status, or deleted entirely.
Administrative Capabilities
Host
Thread hosts have the following privileges:
- Set thread "tone" and topic
- Move or delete off-topic posts
- Delegate co-hosts
Any user with a valid login is eligible to be a thread host. That does not
mean that anyone can be a thread host; forum and folder administrators reserve
the right of final determination. The benefit of the doubt will be given
to the requesting user.
Folder Administrator
Folder administrators have the following authority within their folder:
- Grant host access
- Determine thread access (request by access, restricted)
- Move and delete posts in all threads.
- Delegate other folder administrators.
Forum Administrator
The forum administrator is God. A more prosaic description of this phenomenal
cosmic power is that a forum administrator has all the access of a folder
administrator--for every folder.
