Return

Finally, after months, I went to see a movie, Best in Show, Christopher Guest's mockumentary setting up the Westminister Dog Show.

His entire repertory acting company from Waiting for Guffman return for this send-up of dog lovers and Americans (in general).

As in Guffman, the scenes are improvised, but the overal scheme tracks 4 dog owners headed for the Mayflower Dog Show in Philadelphia.

Fred Willard is dead-on portraying Joe Gargiola, who does USA Network coverage of the Westminister. Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy are wonderful. Michael Hitchcock and Parker Posey are the yuppy couple from hell (they met while in law school, looking at each from separate Starbucks across the street from each other). There is a gay couple and a lesbian couple and a North Carolina fishing store owner with a blood hound (and a ventriloquist act) -- Guest's character.

Probably more fun for dog owners and the small cult of people who watch the real show on cable tv every February.
