All About Eve
"December 19, 2000"
All About Eve has an intelligent, sharply humorous script (courtesy of Joseph Mankiewicz, who also directed), and Bette Davis gives a virtually flawless performance. She may be playing a prima donna actress, which shouldn't be a stretch, but she still does an impeccable job. The plot presages both The Talented Mr. Ripley and The Player, imitating the latter with several in jokes, which I'm sure I often missed though I caught a couple.
My only quibble would be the final, post-banquet scene, which I thought predictable and unnecessary.
