Return

Took the kids to see How The Grinch Stole Christmas this afternoon.

Except for the added love interest subplot and some background into the reason for the Grinch's grinchiness, it was pretty faithful to the book - including the sets, which captured the whimsically odd doodle shapes of Seuss' art - and which I would've thought to be near impossible, what with the twisty, arching stairways to everywhere and nowhere, the absurd chimneys, cars, contraptions, furniture, hair-dos, etc, all over Whoville.

As a life-long, HUGE Dr. Seuss fan, that was the thing for me. It really was like stepping in to a Seuss book.

Jim Carey was, of course, perfect as the Grinch. I knew he would be. His makeup and costumes were also perfect, as were those of the Whos.

My daughters, 3 and 8, absolutely loved it. Usually, when we've taken the younger one to the movies she only sits for a few minutes before getting bored and trying to get up and run around - in fact, she can't sit anywhere for more than 5 minutes. Not so today. She spent the entire 2 hours on my lap, only shifting her attention to ask where the "Ginch" went whenever he wasn't in a scene.

And it occurred to me, just now, that in that packed theater, there were no little ones getting up and running around - that's gotta say something for the flick.

I highly recommend it for any adult or child.
