I know this conversation is about 100 posts back, but I saw
"Something About Mary," and to quote a phrase some
professionally-funny people I know often use: The Farrelly
brothers are doing the Lord's work. The final credits with the
musical number of "You Build Me Up, Buttercup" was a
stroke of genius because humor works best when you make it really
clear that everyone involved can take a joke. I liked
"Kingpin," and I'm gonna rent "Dumb &
Dumber" really soon, but this is definitely the best film of
its kind. Makes even the Airplane and Naked Gun films look flat
and uninspired, and completely raises the bar on the Police
Academy/Porkys-type franchises. This movie will prove once and
for all that tasteless comedy can actually be done well.
