Finally took in Star Trek: Insurrection last
night. I'm surprised no one has written about it yet. Or, if they
had, I missed it.
Overall, I think this movie has avoided the
"odd numbered movie" Star Trek syndrome. It wasn't as
good as "First Contact", of course, but still one of
the better Treks in the series. Unquestionably, the best odd
numbered movie of the series thus far.
The plot was a bit too preachy and predictable,
but then this *is* Star Trek after all. I enjoyed the various
character developments that were actually lacking in the last
Next Generation flick. Data being bold (without the dumb-ass
emotion chip), Troi and Ryker getting back together, Jordi seeing
for the first time and tearing up at a sunrise, and Picard
gettin' jiggy with an interesting little number.
I can agree, however, with the complaint that
the film dragged some and was way too talkative in some parts,
but, again, those of us who watched the series expect this.
I recommend ST: Insurrection if for no other
reason to wet your sci-fi appetite for "Star Wars"
coming up early next year.
