Session Start: Sat Feb 20 06:50:28 1999 * Logging #sosstudy to '#sosstudy2_20.log' KAYROLLER-GET AOL MESSAGE TOSSER. It will automatically answer that disconnect you get and keep you online. I have it and use it when I am connected using AOL as my ISP. http://www.bluefront.com/aolsft/mt.htm I also have a second ISP Prodigy. What ever new ISP you use- most have a referal for credit deal. That means for example if I recommend you to prodigy and you sign up with them I get a $20 credit. Actually Prodigy pays by check. Prodigy also has a yearly rate $169 (Was it was when I signed up)If you are going to sign up with GW’s then have her recommend you and see if her program also has this credit program. but on AOL they have a timer that says every 42 mins but goes off every 30 and if you dont push there button you are disconnected I have a question when you are ready. Ok, I have a diskette with Jewish religious graphics. I want to use these graphics to design borders and backgrounds for my site. I find that the graphics on the disk are NOT gifs or JPGs. what are they in? They are Tiff, EPS, AI88, CGM, ESP, PCX, WMF, and PCX I think all but .eps works in psp 5 roz Which is the best. I tried tiff and it had polk-a-dots in the graphic I don't know how to get rid of the dots. tiff and .bmp are both lossless so they are good I think I tried wmf as well and saved that as gif and it worked ok. you would have to increase the colour depth for most of the ones you mentioned what does Lossless mean. I saw that in PhotoImpact. then do some softening, possibly some blurring roz read the lesson on .gif and .jpg file formats Is that lesson 2? it has a great explanation on lossless and lossy file formats either 2 or 1 I forget which now was lossy and lossless discussed in 1 or 2? compression is 1 roz in lesson 1 under compression That's the part about lossless? Then after saving the graphic to gif which looked pretty good I tried to put a shadow it will mention both lossless and lossy on it and it had a *white* edge around it. Why? roz after the shadow? on your layers one? or before Yes.. after the shadow! It does not have layers yet. is the white on the outside edge of the shadow, or between the shadow and the image? I just tried one graphic so far and I wanted to put a shadow on it and it had the edging so I made it a button instead which does not look bad but not very original. The *outside* of the shadow. Sorry it is in lesson 2-1 Then when I saved it in the wmf and changed to gif I had *zig zag* instad of the white edge. roz try putting the dropshadow on over.. under file formats the colour of your background for instance if you are using a patterned background on the web page open that tile as one layer then open your image as the second layer now apply the drop shadow merge the layers it should be all fixed and look perfect on your web page what happens if the background is a solid color? then layer one would be that solid colour I am going to offer these graphics from my page when I get the collection done. The thing is if I am going to do this then I can't really make the background colors as people may want their own color schemes. Have you all see heronwing's web sets shirley yes isn't it something roz the best think would be to avoid adding dropshadows with a blur the blur is what messes things up So I should make the drop shadow less blurry? Or not use it at all. Without it the grahphic look too plain. that will stop the white from appearing so much the more you blur, the more of the background colour it picks up if done on a transparent canvas, when saved to .jpg or .gif it turns white Oh... I did not know that. I will check it out. It took me months to be able to figure out how to get the graphic off the disk. yes, if anybody wants them, shirley I am sure lots will want them! I have a long way to go but I have time to get there I have 4 sets that I did last year. My very first creations. http://members.xoom.com/web_lady/passover/graphics/ I did them out of desperation because there was so little around for the Jewish religion. does anyone else have a question? If anyone comes across any Jewish sites would you let me know about them! roz do a search for jewish educational that should get you started well what is it kinkell? have we done unsharp yet? I have a lot in my resources from last year and added some more during Hanukkah. kinkell no not yet, I think that is in the next lesson why? can you explain radius and strength please do you have a question about it radius is how far out if it wont confuse and strength is how much intensity if memory serves correctly *** roz^ is now known as z-roz^ how far out do you want the sharpen to go = radius with how much intensity = strenght think of blur as the example... you set how far you want the blur applied still doesn't make sense...from the middle? and how faded it should be yes it would be the middle radius from the midpoint so it doesn't do the whole thing just an area of it? eminates outward *** eagle-flew-coop has quit IRC (Connection reset by peer ) if you set it up on high it does the whole thing what is the top setting for radius do you remember? is it 100% or 50% * Bo-Peep-N cannot remember strength is % okay how high does radius let you go? 50 or 99, or 100 ? radius is up to 36 ? still going k there should be a max at some point radius 100 k so 100 is the full picture ok so if you want to sharpen the entire image, set radius to 100 strength goes to 500% wow!! that must be a bug! looks awful!! I can imagine! overkill what is clipping then? and in psp? unsharp?? not sure kinkell goes up to 100 try psp help for a definition I have used clipping, but it never seems to do anything in find hang on, let me check on of my reference books for graphic design clipping it says k blank nothing? nothing nada let me check one of my books granny do your tutorial in the meantime on bubbles even unsharp is nada * Granny-Wicked says who wants to learn bubbles? sure me it is not hard open psp5 bubble pipe LOL everyone do granny's tutorial open a new image, 200 x 200 white background change the forground color to a light grey and flood fill set the back ground color to your favorite color then reverse the foreground and background colors we are working on bubbles now click on the airbrush no paper texture brush tip, round size 70 opacity 87 hardness 0 density 100 and click once on your picture, right mouse click, DO NOT MOVE THE MOUSE then LEFT MOUSE CLICK same spot to lighten even more, click left mouse button again you have your first bubble cool you can randomly place bubbles, anywhere you want the larger your brush the larger the bubbles the smaller the smaller bubbles Granny wait! left clicking again darkens the bubble I don't have a bubble. you can change opacity, density and hardness also to fit your needs, and change your colors to various colors for different looks roz, what is your airbrush settings? opacity 87 density 100 size 70 hardness 0 step 25 shape horizontal size round? you need a brush round you mean *shape* round? yes now that is great!!! shape round hey I like horizontal, looks like a tube lol try step at 67 also roz I did bubble inside of bubble yes that is what is cool you can make bubbles on bubbles large and small I suppose this could be a bubble! Thanks Granny. to make the inside more clearer double click right mouse the center should be a light grey or white color great eyes maker but you can also use a lighter color of the same color scheme just use very light color yes eagle user excited?? it has some potential for buttons, also maybe this week I will put up a buble one I made it looks like a jar full of bubbles if you click with the lighter color on the corner it give a nice shadow affect. I was thinking of using for a border, but it is to busy with my site, lol guessing game -how many eyeballs in jar, marbles too okay kinkell ready? kinkell here is what I found an easy thing to do it is not from the middle it dictates the edge of an image..all edges I guess radius = determines the # of pixels surrounding the edge pixels that are affected clipping value = Determines how much the difference between the pixels must be... before the filter is applied As you increase the value, the pixels must have increasingly different lightness values to be affected. this allows you to reduce the noise that would mormally be introduced with a sharpen filter now using that theory..it should be possible to apply a sharpen unsharp sorry to an image that has white around the drop shadow with a blur to help get rid of the white pixels someone try that some day and let me know yeah...right! filters will be next lesson I believe they are lots of fun and will really help you add special effects to your images I am going to try to make it more fun then last time oh joy I will read that through a few times...maybe it will make sense..thanks you know how sometimes you can place text.. and for whatever reason it looks a little fuzzy? yes well apply a unsharp mask, look in the preview window..play with the features..and you should see it sharpen up..become less fuzzy that is because the edges were sharpened using the unsharp..it took the pixels that caused the fuzz fuzzy look and made them sharper yes...I have played with unsharp on photos..it improves some so why is it called unsharp if it sharpens???? LOL...never mind probably..and just guessing here * Granny-Wicked says it is an eye thing kinkell!! because how it works is to make the distinction between.. the edge colour and the surrounding colours less sharp it will take light and darken somewhat to make it fit in better sort of blends therefore it makes the difference between pixels less sharp unsharp but that of course is only a guess I think it is cause it fills in the pixels in a way that it mixes the colors more to look clearer granny if you move your mouse slightly before adding light colour the bubble looks more real yes kinkell that is true well if there are no other questions...this chick has tons of work to do.. thanks for the tut gw * Granny-Wicked says horizontal line is cool too if moved slightly off side to lighten, makes it look like a tube http://www.rea-alp.com/~abacus/bopeep.htm Session Close: Sat Feb 20 08:03:14 1999
