Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means has he been made well, Let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of JESUS CHRIST of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom GOD raised from the dead, by him this man stands before you whole. This is the stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone. Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:8-12)
THE SOLE AVENUE OF SALVATION: The call to take the gospel to the nations is founded in these basic assumptions: 1)that humankind without Christ is lost, whether the entire race or the individual is concerned; 2)that there is "no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved"; that is, that no other authority, no other personality, no other system or philosophy can effect the rescue of the human soul. While some propose possibilities for human hope other than personal trust in Jesus Christ, God's Word preempts such propositions. In 2 Cor.5:17 to be "in Christ" is the only way to enter the "new creation" of God's present promise and his eternal salvation. (Glen Cole, B.A., D.D.)
The apostle paul who was addressing the super-intellectuals,pseudo-intellectuals and philosophers on Mar's Hill in Athens said:"Men of Athens I perceive that in all things you are very religious;for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship,I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore,the One whom you worship without knowing,Him I proclaim to you: God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth,does not dwell in temples made with hands,Nor is He worshiped with men's hands,as though He needed anything,since He gives to all life,breath,and all things. And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth,and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings,so that they should seek the Lord,in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him,though He is not far from each one of us;for in Him we live and move and have our being,as also some of your own poets have said,'For we are also His offspring'. Therefore,since we are the offspring of God,we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone,something shaped by art and man's devising. Truly,these times of ignorance God overlooked,but now commands all men everywhere to repent,because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead. And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead,some mocked,while others said,'we will hear you again on this matter'. So Paul departed from among them" (Acts:17,22-33) In verse 26 Paul states:" And He has made from one blood every nation of men who dwell on all the face of the earth,and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings." Charles E. Blake (B.A.,M.Div.,D.Th.) speaks to 'The Unity of the Human Race' in this commentary written in direct reference to verse 26: "HUMAN WORTH - Here the unity of the human race is clearly stated,for through Adam and Eve (Gen.3:20),all races and nationalities of men came forth. We all proceed from one blood, both figuratively and literally, for the same blood types are found in all races. Humankind is a universal family. "Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us? (Mal.2:10). We live in a single world community. No race or nation has the right to look down on or disassociate itself from another. The apostle Peter said, "God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean...In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation, whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him" (Acts 10:28,34,35). There are only two divisions of humankind: the saved and the unsaved. Other differences are merely skin deep or culturally flavored. but all people are relatives. (Gen.9:5,6/1Cor.12:12)
"THE MODEL PRAYER" When Jesus spoke to the multitude during the sermon on the mount he said: "And when you pray,you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them. For your father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. In this manner, therefore, pray: "Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen". (Matt.6:5-13) "The Lord's Prayer" - is a prayer outline with seven major topics, each representing a basic human need: 1) The Paternal Need: "Our Father" (v.9).When you pray, all needs are met by the benevolence of a loving Father. 2) God's Presence: "Hallowed be Your name" (v.9).Enter His presence through praise (Ps.100:4),and call Him "Father" because of Christ's atoning blood (Heb.10:19-22; Gal.4:4-6). 3) God's Priorities: "Your kingdom come" (v.10).Declare that His kingdom priorities (Rom.14:17) shall be established in yourself, your loved ones, your church, and your nation. 4) God's Provision: "Give us" (v.11).Jesus, the needmeeter, told us to pray daily, asking Him to supply all our needs. 5) God's Forgiveness: "And forgive us" (v.12).You need God's forgiveness, and you need to forgive others. Daily set your will to walk in love and forgiveness. 6) Power Over Satan: "And do not lead us ... deliver us from the evil one" (v.13).Pray a hedge of protection about yourself and your loved ones (Job 1:9,10; Ps.91),and verbally put on the armor of God (Eph. 6:14-18). 7) Divine Partnership: "For Yours is the kingdom" (v.13).Praise God for sharing His kingdom, power, and glory with you (2 Tim.4:18; Luke 10:19; John 17:22).
