Why design another CPU, are not there enough for the hobbyist to use already?
Well Yes. But that is not the point I did it (well started it) for fun and hopefully to provide fun for others.
After seeing other peoples hobby RISC CPUs it became obvious to me that is was possible for me to do the same. I had intended to produce a Verilog PIC, but finding that already done, I set my sights slightly higher and started thinking a few thing through, the E-Risc is the result of those thoughts (deranged as they might be).
Many thanks to Jan Gray and Tom Coonan and the rest, for proving that a hobby CPU is not outside of the realms of possibility (or even if it is you can have fun trying). I only especially mention these two as they were the first such sites I found and as such were very influential.
Also with the whole design open to the public, you can really understand what you are playing with, I hope so anyway. So much that I hope you will want to change it a let it grow.
