| Images above and to the left are the output from renderings done using a CAD (computer aided drafting) program. The 3D model is very similar to our own house, and renderings will become progressively more realistic as detail and materials are added to it. The last image shows what the model looks like in the more or less abstract space in which it is created, with the view set to a flat shaded mode. |

This is a competition entry I worked on for the design of a bus shelter. It was to be built of plexiglass and steel, of shop fabricated parts and bolted together in the field to a concrete base. It included a redwood bench with a curved front, angled at each end to return to the shelter back wall, and a metal framed case to place a schedule on the back wall. |

An interior, a little more complex than the earlier renderings, showing lighting that was ray-traced to show sun light at a particular time of day for this interior space.

| What you see here is an attempt at beginning to grow a bonsai or penjing mintiature tree. Ironically, the largest tree in the world makes a rather good type of tree for growing in a small pot because it lends itself to the pruning and shaping that are required. Most popular style for this species is called "formal upright" and represents a tree growing more or less straight up without interference from other trees, rather than the more gnarled or twisted forms possible with some trees. I am just beginning and still have a struggle ahead of me to provide these trees (7 have survived the summer so far from an original crop of about 12 or so) with the conditions they require. Unfortunately, even if you give them enough light indoors, they would not live very long without a dormant period each winter, so I will probably have to grow them in the garage with some light to keep them through the winter. My goal is to build a greenhouse some time in the future.
