Video Clips

Life is going well these days. I have regular classes going,  my house is in a reasonable state of order (no more bat droppings; only bats dropping) and power cuts are short and infrequent.

I'm also in a position to begin putting video clips up on this site more regularly. (Thanks Dmitry!)

Every week or so there will be a new clip for you to download. I will display the size of the file beside it so that you know roughly how long it will take to copy to your computer. To watch the video clip simply click the link and it should download and play automatically. You will need media player software. If you do not have it, you will be told as you try to download the clip. Some media player software can be downloaded from the Microsoft Web Site.

If you want to find any clips or other downloads that were previously available, go to the Archive page.

This week there are three clips for download. They were taken at a well opening. There is a family of Germans who live quite near me. They are geologists and work around the area digging wells. When they find a village that has a need and an appreciation of the work that will be involved they spend a week or two digging a well with them. Locating a suitable site and drilling down involves using sophisticated equipment. The pumps themselves are expensive and a lot of work is involved. When the well is finished they like to have a bit of an occasion where it is presented to the people. It is a chance to let the local people know how important it is to maintain the well, to thank them for their help, and to introduce Christianity to them.

(813Kb) The first clip shows Dieter presenting the well to the people. As he finishes a sentence the chairman of the village translates it into Luganda for the people
(1.05MB) The second clip shows the well being used for the first time. You can see that it is a very solid pump and will with-stand years of normal use. The pump is padlocked every night so as to prevent overuse. If the pump is used too much, the water level will drop to a level where the pump becomes useless.
(899Kb) After a day of speeches and a football match between the muzungus and the local village team, a film about the life of Jesus is shown in the centre of the village. A huge generator and projector are brought from Kampala on a truck for the purpose. Hundreds of people attend; drawn by the noise. The film is dubbed into Luganda so the local people will understand it.
