The text file data may tab-delimited or have fixed lengths. It also contains a report options which allows the user to generate the report for module / table / transaction / without duplicate record / with duplicate record/date wise. Data converted using this system is used by the modules developed below.

Brief Description

The KPTC Information System is an enterprise level project that links the various departments of the Kuwait Public Transport Co. that are spread across the geography of Kuwait. It contains 8 major modules : Puchase, Stores, Third Party Garages, Workshop and Own Garages, Personnel, Payroll, Fleet Management, Legal and Finance modules. Listed below are the brief descriptions of the 4 modules I have worked on.

The Stores Module keeps track of the various items received by the Stores Department of K.PT.C. It maintains the technical details and the stock of each item at its various depots around Kuwait. The Store Receipt Voucher transaction maintains the receipt of the items from the Purchase Dept. It issues these items to the requested Workshop Dept. by entering the details in an Issue Voucher transaction. Inter-store transfers are maintained using Transfer Voucher transaction. The stock of each item is maintained month-wise and store-wise. It also contains queries and reports for the top management about slow moving stock, physical stock verifications, return stock etc.

The Workshop and Own Garages module deals with the computerization of the workshop that repair K.P.T.C.’s own bus fleet. The basic transaction is the Work Order that is created whenever a bus goes to the garage for repair or for maintenance. By choosing a set of jobs for repairing a bus, the computer automatically specifies the necessary spare parts and standard time required to complete the job. The module also calculates the time spent on a work order by an employee on a bus using the Labor Card transaction. The Bus Maintenance Schedule automatically finds out which bus requires maintenance based on its mileage. There is also a Spare Part Projection transaction projects the number of spare parts required for a particular period based on the bus maintenance schedule.

The Third Party Garages Module maintains the details of operations and management of garages used to provide maintenance service to cars .It involves job planning and Scheduling, jobs Follow up and control work in progress monitoring invoicing and documentation support .It gets input values as spare part issue, code master update, operation planning and etc .It produces output as job order history, list of invoices, garage issue document, section work progress, job order and spare parts details and order, receipt and issue voucher.

The Purchase Module is the primary module of the K.P.T.C. Information System Project. Any purchase made by K.P.T.C. is recorded here. First a tender is sent out to selected companies using the Tender Master. The quotations received from these companies are entered using the Quotations transaction. Using the Quotation Comparison report, the company with the lowest price is selected and a Purchase Order is sent using the Purchase Order transaction. Once the items are received by shipment, the items received are entered using the Supplier Invoice transaction. It also has a set of queries and reports for top management which reports on the status of every Purchase order, Lead Times per item etc.
