My days as a Land Surveyor playing the sun and traffic are over. I left the ranks Land Surveying and the ranks of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson. You know the old saying "What does a Land Surveyor see when they look at Mount Rushmore?" "Three Surveyors and some other guy." As a Surveyor I worked out in the field as an Instument man and when it got over a 100 degrees F I would figure out how to get back into the office doing the work of a Cartographer (map maker).
After 10 years of Surveying I moved into property management at which my offical title was Right-Of-Way Supervisor. A Right-Of-Way Surpervisor was responsible for the upkeep of a large territory of utility cooridors. Lots of grading work and weed abatement. Not much fun, not very rewarding but, the pay was good.
The lead Civil Engineer I was working with learned of my Survey background and CAD abilities while I was working as Right-Of-Way Supervisor and made me a better offer working for him. So I went to work as a Civil Engineer. I enjoyed the Civil Engineering work it was a lot of fun. At the Civil job I was doing a lot of Designing and Earth Work
(yes, I believe enjoying this type of techincal work does make a nerd). I worked for the Civil Engineer for a year then found out about Project Management. The pay was great and I actually had experience in it, I just didn't realize it. So I've made a new change and am now working in the field of Project Management. I guess now I'll have to start up a new website.
A horse is a horse of course of course
