Akasagarbha (Xu Kong Zang in Chinese; Namkhai Nyingpo in Tibetan; Kokuzo in Japanese) Bodhisattva is considered to be the essence of ether. His name literally means boundless space treasure and symbolizes the infinite happiness generated by helping countless number of sentient beings. Kukai (Kobo Daishi), the founder of Shingon Buddhism (the Japanese Esoteric school of Buddhism), chanted a mantra of Akasagarbha Bodhisattva, which helped enhance his wisdom and memory.
