After getting to our hotel quite late last night we had an early start this morning. Today we saw the pyramids of Giza. We also went for a camel ride. Not something I would recommend. We were paired off, Claire & Rebecca then me & Kayleigh. Claire almost fell off and Kayleigh was scared to death for the entire ride. Actually there was no almost to it, Claire did fall off the camel. The camel ride did afford us some very nice views of the back of the pyramids and from our vantage point we could see all three pyramids. After the camel ride we went inside of the Second pyramid. It was a very claustrophobic corridor leading up to the tomb room. The corridor was probably only four feet wide and served as both the entrance and exit. Unfortunately you could not take cameras into the pyramid. The corridor first took a quite steep descent into the pyramid and a steep ascent up into the tomb room. There wasn't much to see in the tomb room except an empty sarcophagus. After going in the pyramid we went around to the front of the pyramids, via the English Papyrus museum where we stopped for 30 minutes. There we learned how papyrus was made and saw many beautiful paintings on papyrus. Of course, we didn't leave empty handed. From the front of the pyramids you could see the Sphinx and the processional path leading up to the Second pyramid. I was amazed at how small the Sphinx was in real life. All the pictures I had seen of it gave me the impression it was much bigger. After this Mena took us back to our hotel where we had a late lunch then spent some time at the pool. We dined in the hotel at one of their many restaurants and the food was excellent.
