Overall impressions are that this is a useful step approach to introducing the concepts, however I would say that its too limited in terms of placing ALE within overall scope. True, you stress that scope must be agreed, and that scope is key, but you don t drill down to the whys and wherefores on scope. Immediate examples here are middleware, third-party (CSP?) vendors, political landscape in terms of SAP ownership, cultural and country-specific differences (I could go on). The A of ALE is about linking Applications: in my experience the process of getting ALE a serious mention is overshadowed by overall "integration issues" - as mentioned above. Of course, this is only one component of an SAP implementation, but its impor ant to stress that ALE, BAPI, IDoc, RFC, etc. should have equal pegging with SD, FI, MM, others. All too often, the work of integration is overlooked as "further development", or even worse "ABAP task" on the plan. This won't do. EAI for want of a bett r term, along with e-business (it had to be in there somewhere), are key to strategy, if not the drivers f o r strategy. Put it this way, the bulk of my work is in the above softer issues than it is actual ALE. As you point out, ALE is robust, it exists, and it works! To a certain extent it in itself is also ver easy, but that technical implementation is trivial compared o the overall business delivery issues.
