Global Brands is a newly established private company in Cairo. The company has two main business areas. The first business area is the “Software Support” area in which the company offers Software support for Microsoft Office / BackOffice line of products. It is worth mentioning here that Microsoft selected Global Brands to be a Comprehensive Recommended Support Point (RSP). The second business area is the “Hardware Solutions” area in which the company provides hardware solutions using Compaq’s line of servers and desktop computers. In this area Global Brands succeeded to be an Authorized Compaq Reseller and an Authorized Compaq Service Center in Egypt.

Established in 1992, RITSEC is a joint project between the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD), and is hosted by the Government of Egypt represented in the Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) which provides operational, resources, and facility support. RITSEC's mission is "To support and help develop the information technology and software industry in the Arab region in order to become a world-class industry able to compete at international levels and serve as a catalyst for accelerating social and economic development".

In RITSEC, I joined the Cultureware Unit Cultureware2.gif (3833 bytes) whose mission is "To be a world leader in using IT to help culture preservation and dissemination". One of Cultureware's main objectives is the development of projects for the preservation of Arabic and Islamic manuscript collections through the utilization of multimedia information technology.
