Douglas Adams died Friday morning. I was considering making both the background and the text of this page black in his memory, but then I decided not to irritate all three of the people who read this webpage.
Mortality is catching up with imagination. All of my favorite writers are dying. Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, Arthur C. Clarke. These men gave us a view of the future. Any view. By taking human nature and technological progress and running with it as quickly as possible. Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide books were some of the first science fiction books I ever read. The greatness of Arthur Dent as an English hero still overwhelms me at times. The comedy and thought he put into the Hitchhiker's Guide, as well as the Dirk Gently books, defies words.
We will treasure his stories forever.
It makes me saaaaaaad. :(
