Listening to They Might Be Giants. It's fun. "Call the men of science and let them hear this song. Tell them Albert Einstein and Copernicus were wrong." Found the new DMB live cd on the network (yay phynd). It's good stuff. Some of the songs have weird timings to them, not what I'm used to. But good nonetheless. Great setlist. I have resolved to attend both shows in Hartford this summer, but I do not yet know if the financial situation will bear the resolution. Plus I'll need someone to go with me *grin*.
I got a new contact lense, because they discontinued the series that my prescription was a part of. So I'm trying just one out in my left eye. Day one did not go well, the thing fell out somewhere between fifteen and thirty times. Practically everytime I looked down and sometimes when I didn't. Plus, it doesn't even fix my vision as well as my old one does. Day two went better, thank goodness, because it would have sucked to go to class and work with only one contact lense. Lemme tell ya, it's disorienting to say the least. Other things I acquired over the weekend: I got a chair. The box says that it's leather, but I don't quite believe it :). However, it was thirty-five dollars, so who cares? I did have to put it together myself. The only screwdriver I had was on my swiss army knife. Let's just say that it took a beating and leave it at that. I also bought the Dark Elf trilogy in one softcover volume. You know, R.A. Salvatore, before he sucked. Something I've been wanting to re-read for quite some time, but hadn't had a chance to. I saw it in Waldenbooks on Saturday with Christen, whilst hoping that they might have a copy of Demon. No such luck, the Waldenbooks in Norwich has a crappy selection in general and an even worse one where Role-playing books are concerned. So now I'm trying to get Kosta to drive us to Manchester, but he's busy all week. I was hoping to have it before Friday, but no such luck. Oh, well, lesson in patience.
Went to see Harry Potter Saturday night. These people need to figure out that CG is too over the top. They should use puppets and touch it up with CG, otherwise it just looks like crap. Like gravity treats it differently or something. The damn house elf looked fine, but moved weird. Frankly, it just wasn't acceptable. The big monsters worked better, and quidditch seemed fine, it was mostly the elf that bothered me. Enough of the CG rant. On to the other things that bothered me! The fact that the subtlety that these ancient powerful wizards possess has to be on a level that a six year old will grasp and understand makes it pretty darn pointless to attempt to be subtle. Professor Snape is great and all, but geeze! Why not just wear a goddam neon sign or something!! Pardon my Sperethiel. Other things of interest... one completely unexplained plot point. It's real easy to go all deus ex machina all over the place in a fantasy continuum, especially a children's one, where you know they won't pick up on some things. But please, Ms. Rowling, avoid the urge in the future. Magic can do a lot of things, but not if it is not directed. Magic isn't some sort of collective, with a life and will of its own (midichlorians, anyone?!). Last point... romantic tension? Hmm.... interesting. *grin* I always was a sucker for dark hair.
Lets see... scored some green tea at jonathan's tonight. First time in a while. Good stuff. On to the weather! It's cold as all get out. Actually, its not that cold. It's just the mind numbing wind that does it to me everytime. Plus I was afraid I would lose my hat and/or my ears. So far so good, though.
Okay, now it's time to go back and italicize things. *grin*
Okay, that should do it. If I go back and italicize more things enough times, eventually the whole thing will be italics and it will all lose its impact. You know?
