Fishout Results: January 22nd Lake Nacimiento
Well we started out our day in thick fog with air temps in the 45 degree range and water temps in 51-55 degrees. The lake had been full two weeks ago and now it was down about 15 ft. with muddy water and a ton of wood and floating debris in the lake. In first place with 12.15 lbs and most of his fish in the first two hours in the fog was Mark Serrano. He said he was fishing the drop offs with a custom made reaper in a purple ghost color for the only limit caught in the tournament. He also had the first big fish a 3.00 lber. on that bait. He said he had fished the lake several times last year when the water was low and he remembered where the good rock structure was now that the lake had filled up. He said he caught the fish on the rock bluffs that pulled away from the shore in about 6-9 ft of water, that had a steep drop off adjacent to the bluff he would drag the bait off the drop off and the fish hit it. In second place with 8.35 lbs and three nice fish was myself Mike Espinola. I was fishing up shallow in 2-8 ft of water from near the launch ramp and all the way to the dam. I caught the 2nd big fish of the day and all the others on my 3/8 oz. football head Matzuo hook in cinnamon brown with blue flake twin tail spider grubs that I dipped the tails in cht dye to make them stand out in the muddy water. I also used crawdad bang fish attractant a lot to help them smell my bait in the dirty water. There was actually a little cleaner water in that arm of the lake. In third place with 4 fish for 7.65 lbs was Jack Ray. He said he also looked for cleaner water and started catching fish split shotting a green weenie colored worm over by the dam. In fourth place with 3 fish for 5.25 lbs was Dieter Spicker he said he was fishing main lake secondary points with a 3/8 oz. grub in smoke red & black flake in about 20-25 feet of water. He also caught one on a Carolina rigged sweet beaver in 20-25 ft. slow draggin the bait also near secondary main lake points. In fifth place with 3 fish for 5.15 lbs. was Russell Witkowsky he said he used a Carolina rigged baby brush hog in watermelon red flake with a light weight to catch the fish dragging really slow and feeling the bait tick the bottom back in the cove near Bee rock. He also had one in the morning on the rocky steep banks across from the ramp on the same bait. In sixth place with 2 fish for 4.10 lbs. was Augie Robles. Welcome back Augie we missed you its nice to see your name up in the top again. We all had a nice time bar-b-queing and sitting around the old campfire Friday night next to the trailers. We would like to do that more often so lets all try to coordinate something for next month at Berryessa.
