Micks mix, Free program's, utility's, and tip's for Windows.... and more!
Hi everyone...

While some of you have been patiently waiting for updated content here, I haven't exactly been idle, I've been writing a bunch of articles for upcoming issues of Micksmix. By the way, these articles are inter-linked with other articles that I wrote pertaining to the subject at hand, and in ALL cases it may be a good idea to print it off, because some of them involve making changes where you won't have access to the file... nor Windows, maybe only the DOS operating system!

Hey, how's your sense of humour? ya' gotta' check this out.
How you can make $75,000 in one day. Wait'll you see this, you're gonna' love it.... especially if your a little old lady with balls! I put it on its own page so you can print it off "just like that".

Just recently,
I was cruising some 'Hacker' sites and within 10 minutes I had step by step instructions on how to electronically 'tap into' an ATM.... So although I've just about finished writing a fairly comprehensive file explaining viruses, Trojans, etc I kinda' think that viruses will soon be the least of a users worry's. A bigger cause for concern will soon be Hackers.
It's easy to read someone else's computer under certain conditions, all a hacker needs to do is go looking in your e-mail client for one example. Have a think for a moment, are there credit card numbers there someplace...? or user names, passwords, account #'s, maybe even in a confirmation email, or your own files? Chances are that you
do.... it'll be more so soon with e-commerce taking off the way it has!

Turn OFF Windows Scripting Host! It's default is on, even though it is rarely used and likely never by the average user, it's a great big welcome sign to hackers! With this enabled, someone can go into your computer and use scripting host to write commands to your computer. D'ya remember Amazon and E-Bay being shut down because of the massive amount of traffic? Guess how that was done...? the traffic came from many computers, not just the perpetrater's, if his at all! They can also command your computer to do anything they want, whether it's erase data or slowly mess things up so it happens over a period of time. ANYTHING is possible, they just need to get in, heres how to help protect yourself:
Open 'control panel' and click on 'Add/Remove Programs' then click the 'Windows Setup' tab and click 'Communications' and untick 'Microsoft Netmeeting' unless you actually do netmeet. Then click on 'Accessories' and untick 'Windows scripting host'.

If any of you got that free PCDJ player that I mentioned in the last issue, you wanna' go get the new version if you haven't already, (some of you already have it, seeing as how i'm late renewing the link). It's not just a player/mixer anymore, it's evolved into a player/mixer AND broadcaster now,
it's sound engine was originally designed for professional DJ's to use during live performances. In fact... it is so stable that Windows itself can crash and the music will keep on playing!  just like that bunny thing.... I have more to say about this little beauty on The Free Download Page.

Ya' know what?.... Sometimes I think if it weren't for flashbacks, i'd have no memory at all! The very first issue of Micksmix mentioned something about doing a custom Windows installation, (as opposed to the typical install, which is the default, and which leaves a whole pile of components from the full one. I counted at least 32 components missing! And you may have some stuff installed that you never use. I've written a step by step .txt file to show you how to do a custom windows install.... And don't worry, doing this is not the same as formatting and you will not lose any files etc. And besides... at this point, all we are doing is taking away what we don't use and adding components that we do want!

A married man left work early one Friday afternoon, but instead of going home, he went and squandered the weekend... along with his pay cheque, out partying with 'The boys'.
When he got home Sunday night, he ran into a barrage of epithets from his wife.
After a couple of hours of this nagging and berating, his wife asked, "How would YOU like it if you didn't see
me for a couple a days?"
"Suit me
just fine!!" he answered.
Monday went by, and the man didn't see his wife.... Tuesday and Wednesday came and went with the same result. Come Thursday..... The swelling had gone down a bit and he could see her just a little.... out the corner of one eye.
PERFORMANCE TIP
Check out the features in this little gadget... it's free.
Someone asked if it was okay to just delete stuff they didn't want on their computer anymore... and what was the best way to uninstall programs? I wrote this step by step file showing why you shouldn't just delete items, but rather, uninstall programs correctly.
If you have games, prgrams, app's and such that you no longer use nor need, you can get rid of them and free up valuable space and memory.... therefore, your computer performance will improve. But don't simply delete them, they need to be uninstalled correctly, otherwise you'll be leaving all kinds of junk in all kinds of places, including your registry, and a cluttered registry will slow you down... tremendously, if there's lots of old settings and keys in there.
Quick Tips
I made a system change and unfortunately, the only irreplaceable data that I lost was the subscriber list to Micksmix. Here's a tip for ya'... always keep two backups of your most important stuff.

If you are forwarding a message to
everyone in your contact list, or address book, or even just to multiple users. Send it bcc (Blind carbon copy), rather than cc (carbon copy), as most people seem to do.
By sending it bcc, it will still go out to everyone you want, but it won't show evryones name and email address on the email as it does when sending it cc. It also carries certain security implications when everyone can see multiple addresses.

Windows 98 accesses your swap file (same thing as virtual memory, just different name),
before it runs out of RAM (Random access memory, same thing as Physical memory, just different name), which doesn't make much sense, because virtual memory always operates slower than physical memory. Microsoft's knowledge base explains it as being a more efficient method, BUT, they posted a fix for it, there goes the "don't fix it if it ain't broke" theory! this all makes a difference when playing games or doing anything else that uses a lot of memory. To make your system more responsive, try this: click 'start', then 'run' and type  "msconfig"  (no quotes) now click on the 'systen ini' tab and highlight '386Enh', then click on the 'New' button, and type this exactly in the new box that opens:
ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1
Then click 'Apply' and 'ok' then reboot when it asks you to.
I do not sell, loan, give out nor even let anyone peek at your email address.
New issues of Micksmix are not regular just yet. please subscribe and be notified of each updated issue.
Just a thought......
Its good to have faith.. But it's of no use to you unless you beieve in that faith! (Got that from a movie I once saw.)

If quitters never win, and winners never quit...Then what does "quit while you're ahead mean?"

Good health is the slowest possible rate at which one can die.
By the way, the only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth!
