Another short update.

I am adding a tiny UNIX shell script today. A friend down in Texas and I were comparing scripts. We both had one that would list the active instances on a UNIX server. So I am adding my version today.

Just fitting in a short update.

Today's script set is my infamous "mkCnst.sql" bunch. This utility will either enable or disable all table triggers and/or foreign key constraints. You will be prompted to type in either "enable" or "disable" and then "[y/n]" about the constraints and then the triggers.

Right now, I am limited when it comes to file extensions on this site. Remember to rename files that end in "sql.txt" to a simple "sql".

I just promised a MetaLink correspondent that I would try to post two new scripts weekly.

My first new post is Tim Onions "Rollback Segment Statistics". I have found it amazingly useful in the past. I depend on it less these days for several reasons:

  1. I am using automatic undo more these days.
  2. I have already tuned my rollback segments based on this report
  3. I studied the report itself to see what it is doing

The last point is the most important: When you get a script, learn from it. Read it and try to figure out what it does. I do this all the time, but after nine years I still learn things. I just discovered something new in an old, old script about twenty minutes ago.
