Having just completed tech school at Keesler last summer, once I came back to my guard squadron I had a new civilian job in the telecommunications industry right away. Because my civilian employer recongnized what I had been taught at tech school and was old what I would contiue to learn during my enlistment as a tech controller. This is an awsome career field.

Your entries on the guestbook brought back many memories (especially Feldberg - who flew the cross bones flag from the tower? Feldberg is now unmanned, and as previously mentioned, quite different. I visited the site between 96 - 99, reminincing of stories the place could tell.) Winding down on my AF career; retiring Nov 1st and returning to Colorado Springs. Any former controllers there? Aloha to all you T/C's out there! My uncle (John Provan) sent me a link to this page and I just wanted to put up a short post to tell everyone what is going on in the Pacific. I'm currently assigned as a Chief of the Watch for the Commander, Submarine For es U.S. Pacific Fleet Communication Center. We provide communications for over half of the U.S. Submarine force and other Nations. We run a relatively small comm center, but our end product is impressive! Ranging from ELF to EHF on the spectrum, there's n t much we can't do. We have roughly 100 circuts terminating or passing through us. Currently we are developing a UHF/EHF system that enables submarines at sea to connect to the internet. I've done a fair share of Tech Control work, and can attest to the f ct that it can be stressful! Before this assignment, I served onboad the USS HAWKBILL (SSN-666), a nuclear powered fast attack submarine homeported in Pearl Harbor, HI. I served as a Radioman, Electronics Technician and Electronic Warfare Systems Operator Right now, Im torn between pursuing a career in the Navy, or going civilian. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate the help! Please feel free to email!

Gheez this is great. Just found out about it. I spent a day or so in the Tech Control Field. Who can better this???? TRained as a ditty boppy radio operator in 1952 and after four years converted over to Tech Control at Rhein Main. We had a couple old AN/ GC5 (4 channel time division multiplexors). Only radio operators could retrain in those days into the 293XX field as we knew all about changing frequencies couple times a day. After Rhein Main it was, Pepperill AFB, Westover AFB, Siegelbach AS, Colorado S rings, DCA-SAM, Sembach and probably a couple other Tech Controls in there somewhere. Never left the 293/307 field. Sure would like to hear from some of you I've worked with over the years. I retired in 1982 and worked for GTE/Sprint/GSI for 12-15 years at Patch Barracks and fully retired to the Orlando area in Jan 1994. That's a brief recap. It's Johnprovanjr@cs.com over and out.....

Sorry about long last post.. If you have a good working knowledge of Windows 98/NT/2000 and know and have supported LAN, SONNET, ATM, or Ether or 'Broken Ring' networks I know that Microsoft is looking to hire support engineers for Windows 98/NT/Win2000 in WA, TX, and NC and we alway need more testers! (With 27 million lines of code in Win2000 wouldn't you?) Knowledge of Routers, and a MS MCP's in Tcp/Ip and the Supporting Windows NT certs a big plus if you're thinking Tech Support. If your thinking Dev route (through test) have some c/c++ skills handy. Go Tech Controllers!

Wow, alot of old memories. Anybody know what happened to the guys at Falcon AFB from 87-89? I was at Keesler AFB for 3 months as a student instructor (that's right..just finshing Mod 12 in 87 and they asked me to teach Mod's 10-12 as an E3 until my securi y clearance came in..prey cool. Falcon AFS (1879th SQ), and Johnston Atoll 89-90) until I got out just before Desert Shield. Currently working at Microsoft as a Program Manager in the Windows 2000 group. I took the networking/pc installer ($12-15.00/hour), pc networking helpdesk($15-25.00/hour), systems analyst ($25-50.00/hour)path until I landed a job at MS back in 95' and wo ked my way up from NT Support Engineer to PM. Take some night classes teaching the Microsoft MCSE+ path, pass your workstation and tcp/ip certs and you can start work in temp agencies right then and there typically for $15.00 starting nowadays. If you know TCP/IP and has some Microsoft Win98/NT/2000 knowledge chances are you could start off as a tester grunt for $17-25+ an hour if you like Operating Systems that focus heavily on network communications like NT does. I also know Tech Controllers make damn good ADSL support installers for GTE/USWest if you don't mind doing what we used to call Outside Plant work by installing it in people's homes.. In fact the ADSL guy who installed me at home was an ex-tech controller..we damn near split our sides when he mentioned he needed to run a BERT test on my line.. Remember those??

Work on your spelling. It's "qualifications". Grammer is very important. Most companies don't care if you have a degree - if you can prove you have the ability/willingness to learn, have a good personality, and can be an asset in their business ventures. Also IF YOU TYPE LIKE THIS on the internet, you are considered to be SCREAMING. Maybe you just wanted your letters bigger than other people's. Anyway what I'm trying to get at is not knowing what is/is not acceptable will not get you a job. Scope out your company. Stalk it like a tiger! Then attack! Get 'em Snoopy! WOOF! WOOF! That is all. Dequilla loves Tequila.

Went back to Feldberg with my wife in October 1997 (Octoberfest time!) to see what it looked like. 16 foot wooden wall around ops, dorm windows blown out, rec center & mess hall look like a bomb hit. For those of you who might recall my name, here's my history: Tech School at Keesler, MS '75-'76; Hickam, HI '76-'78; Sunnyvale, CA '78-'79; Lajes, AZ ' 0-'81; JUSMMAT, Ankara, TU '81-'83; Ramstein, GE '83-'86; Wilford Hall, Lackland, TX '86-'94; DISA HQ, VA '94-'97; Medina RSOC, Kelly, TX '97-present. If the powers that be have their way I'll be retiring here at the Lackland Annex; but, I'm itching to et back overseas. Then, when I finally hit the bricks, I hope to settle back in the Pacific Northwest. Here's another good job tip from Tony Carmichael. Thanks Tony!! ******************************* ---------- > Norlight maintains a fiber and microwave network that spans about 7 states, including Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, and Iowa. We provide a multitude of services including long distance subscriber, Internet, frame relay, and video satellite uplink facilities. Here in Brookfield, Wisconsin, we maintain the network management center, which is essentially our technical control facility. Norlight hires a great deal from the military, and most of the technicians and tech controllers I've met have a military background. I think I've only met one or two that don't come from the military. > My boss asked me to send you a message, since Norlight is hiring, and he would like to get some Air Force tech controllers. So, if you know anyone getting out in the next few months, and they wouldn't mind a move to Wisconsin, have them check out Norli ht's home page at www.norlight.com and look at the openings.

This site is almost as hard to find as a Tech Controller these days! Winding down my European vacation, left RAF Molesworth after 4 years. Only 20 Months to retire in the Scott AFB Area. Not to many tech control stations left for blue suiters in europe anyway. Most becoming contract sites. Seems a reasonable idea for continuity, but loved the tours! Live Long and Walk on Snoopy!!!

I'm a tech controller in the SC Air Guard and looking for better work. I currently am working at manufacturing in civilian world. I will grad. from tech school (keesler) around 20 Oct. so I am anxious to get a new job. I will consider any decent position to start at in SC or in southern NC or eastern GA. Problem is it seems everybody wants experience but are not willing to give the initial jobs so you can get the experince.

Jim, Nice to see you on the e-mail list of TSCA. I have been talking with Nick (RG Nicol) at the Pentagon on and off for the past year and only today did I see your entry on the TSCA web. I'm currently working out of U.S. Atlantic Command as a program manager/action officer. It's fun and interesting. I get to work with all the latest technology. This week, I'm TDY to Hawaii, trying to set up demonstrations for JICPAC and CINCPAC/J3. Although my career has been a blast, the best part is my memories of Croughton and folks like you who taught me just what it was to be a Tech Controller. Thanks for that. Hope you are happy and living the dream. I don't retire until next spring/summer. They just won't give me that assignment to England and I ain't taking a remote and follow-on to anywhere. My kids are in high school and Mandy and I are still going strong, 18 years Sept 12th. Do you remember the wedding in Banbury? All those tech controllers in semi-formal blues outside St Mary's church. It's a site to bring a tear to your eye, just needs a couple of patchcords around their necks to complete the picture! Cheers Mate! Matt Fischer MSgt Matthew G. Fischer U.S. Atlantic Command/J62B E-mail: fischer@acom.mil (757) 836-5996 DSN 836-5996
