The led in this picture is the stock led. It's been pulled up to show the led wires.
|
|
If you look at where the long wires are coming out, this is where you must de-solder the previous wires.
once you de-solder and remove the existing solder from this area. you can remove the existing green led.
Below is another shot of the rear door handle. This pic does not have the large wires sticking out.
One led prong is above the chip, and the other is below.

|
Finally you can remove the green led from the plastic thing... and put the blue led (or whichever color)
into the plastic thing. Be carefull and make sure you bend the LED's prongs at the correct place. Bending a
LED prong more than once at the same spot, is risky. It might break. For me, I removed the green LED.
I then removed a little nip on the plastic piece which makes the green led fit in properly. I place the
blue led beside the plastic piece, and bent the prongs according to what i could see and where approximately
it should be bent..................

|
Can't forget the little nib the covers the led light. It is basiccaly what touches the circuit board
when you press the up/down switch on the door handle.
Before: nip looks normal....
After: top of nip is cut

|
And finally the result of the soldering, led removal, led install, resolder, and nip cut...

I will tell people here, that i made this page. Hopefully others will find this page informative. :D

here are misc pictures i took when i did the front driver side door.
|
I made a big mistake with the front left led which is used to light the window lock button.
I didn't cut off enough led prong underneath where the solder is. When i put it all back together
I plugged it into the car, i start the car and went to get gas. I decide to try the buttons.
I press the autodown button for driverside window. The door lock button begins going blue to amber
to burning out. turns out the wires where the solder is, went through the protective rubber and hit
a chip underneath. Hitting the chip's wire and sending more voltage through it. Now i can't lower my
driver side window anymore :(
