Guilty Until Proven Innocent
Before it used to be you were innocent until proven guilty.
Now it's just the opposite. Every where I look, and every
trial I watch...the person that the entire case revolves
around is not the defendant, or the plaintiff... It revolves
around the prosecutor.
Every time I see someone on trial, they are supposed to be
innocent until someone can prove they are guilty. Now it
seems that the person on trial in most cases is seen as a
guilty person and they must prove without a shadow of a doubt
that they are innocent.
Let's dive back into history for a minute...let's go back into
time about 6 years to 1994. I'm referring to the O.J. Simpson
case for a brief moment, for this is a classic example. When
Mr. Simpson was on trial, every one knows he is guilty.
Everyone wants so bad to believe he is the person that killed
Ron Goldman and his ex-wife. So, instead of the prosecutor
going up there to prove that O.J. is in fact guilty of murder,
the prosecutor paints a pretty picture for the jury, and O.J.
and his defense team must prove O.J.'s innocence instead of
Marcia Clark proving O.J. is guilty.
This is just one example of many, many trials that have done
that exact same thing...so in most cases when you're on trial
for something...you're screwed. I've always told myself and
other people I know when they go to court, "You're putting your
fate in the hands of 12 people who weren't smart enough to get
out of jury duty." And that's scary, ladies and gentlemen.
