BETA testing

Hello and welcome to the BETA testing section of the Sample editing and transformation homepage!

Now, for those of you who don't know about the testing cycle of computer programs, here is a brief explanation... :o)

Software must go through vigourous testing, both during and after coding, to ensure that only the best product is released to the general public, i.e. it won't do anything it's not meant to (like formatting the harddisk when it's actually meant to print out a list of phone numbers in the Seattle area of people beggining with "M" !)

There are three main types of testing and these are...
	1. ALPHA Testing	- This is when the software is tested ' in-house '
i.e. given to the secretary or other such person
to play with in their lunch/tea/coffee break.
This will find the most obvious and glaring errors
(ones that usually impede the actual running of
				  the program)...

	2. BETA Testing - What you might be doing very soon! This is where
the software that was 'fixed-up' from the Alpha
testing is released to a select band of volunteers
(for FREE!) who then test, evaluate and report
back to the authors any bugs or undocumented
features (te he he!). Reports are then analysed
and all bugs found are fixed...

	3. GAMMA Testing	- This is when the program goes on general release
to the public. Of course it's not bug free...
especially if it's a very big and complex program
. People will report any small bugs that havn't
been discovered in the other stages of testing and
the software company will fix them and 'quietly'
release it, with a slightly changed version number
(like from 3.1.4 to 3.1.5). Normally a few 'new'
features are added to make it look like the
				  functionality is being improved...and downloads
or small updates like this are often available
for free to registered owners of the software.

Becoming a BETA tester of new software via this sight is COMPLETELY FREE (even if some future versions are SHAREWARE, but in this case they'll probably be time restricted). All you have to do is read and agree with the following terms of use.

Terms of use...

1. To become a BETA tester you must fill in a form which automatically registers you as one. Once you've submitted this form, you will IMMEDIATELY be given an access password.

2. This password is the same for all BETA testers, and will be changed on the FIRST of every month. The password for the next month will be displayed in the LAST FULL WEEK (Saturday->Saturday) up until the change of password. If you do not log on in this time and find out the new password you can e-mail me to receive the new one, I will require your user name (as stated in the next form) and your e-mail address (as stated in the next form) and the previous password. The new password should then be sent to you within one working week

3. All of the BETA software is under NO WARRANTY, either EXPRESSED or IMPLIED. It is provided AS-IS and is downloaded and used AT THE USERS OWN RISK. WHILE THE SOFTWARE SHOULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO YOUR SYSTEM, I WILL TAKE NO RESPONSABILITY FOR ANYTHING WHICH DOES HAPPEN. WERE THIS SOFTWARE TO CAUSE ANY HARM ON MY SYSTEM I WOULD NOT HAVE RELEASED IT.

4. You may not copy or distribute the software IN ANY WAY. This software is intended for testing purposes and may give a misleading image of both myself and the finished product. FULL VERSIONS MAY BE DIFFERENT FROM BETA VERSIONS...AND SOME BETA VERSIONS MAY BE UNFINISHED PROTOTYPE VERSIONS.

5. You may choose which products you wish to test...you may decide to pick them all or you may decided to pick none. It is totally up to you.

6. If I hear that this service is being abused, I will not hesitate to introduce a DETAILED REGISTERING AND EVALUATION BASED, HAND-PICKED BETA TEST TEAM. Sorry people, but if this service is abused it's the only way forewards...it's a shame and I sincerely hope it won't have to come to this...

7. Some of the software may have time limitations or other restrictions if it is intended for commercial or shareware release. The full products WILL THOUGH BE OBTAINABLE AT A 10% REDUCTION TO REGISTERED BETA TEST TEAM MEMBER UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED AT THE TIME. SORRY, BUT ONLY ONE REDUCE PRICE PURCHASE PER MEMBER.

8. These regulations may CHANGE AT ANY TIME, WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE OF ANY KIND BY MYSELF (Philip John). An announcment will always be made in the NEWS section if this has happened. Previous aggreements will then be NULL AND VOID. If you wish to be removed from the BETA test team, simply cease accessing the password protected page. After the password has been changed twice, you will no longer be able to access the page or request the new password from myself. You may resubscribe at any time.

9. ALL BETA TEST SOFTWARE REMAINS THE SOLE PROPERTY OF PHILIP JOHN. YOU DO NOT 'OWN' THE SOFTWARE, YOU ARE JUST LICENSING IT FOR TESTING PURPOSES. YOU MAY NOT USE IT TO PRODUCE RECORDINGS WHICH WILL BE PUBLISHED AND AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC IN ANY FORM, UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED AT THE TIME OF DOWNLOAD.

10. BETA TESTERS WILL BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD ALL FREEWARE AND UNREGISTERED SHAREWARE FULL FINISHED PRODUCTS UP TO A WEEK BEFORE THEY ARE OTHERWISE RELEASED TO THE PUBLIC (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED)

Ok, sorry about all that, but unfortunately it's necessary... :o(
