Overview

Synth: 6 voice VCO (Square,Ramp,Triangle,Ramp+Triangle) + Noise PWM, EG->VCO. Filter: Cutoff, Resonance, Key-Follow->Cutoff, LFO->Cutoff EG->VCA or VCF but not both (weird, huh?), Polarity. Arpegiator: Up, Down, Up/Down, Hold. Unison mode: Each key triggers all 6 voices simultaneously. (This can be pretty fat, but often too much of a flangey, chorusy sound for my liking) Chorus: 1, 2, or off (Chours is cheap, can have noise!) -- The AX60 has its problems, since it uses VCO (such as voulme problems with notes). Its good if kept in good condition!! Sounds are good and a little fat.

    Problems?

    1) When using Chours 1 or 2; it may have a sloshy (noisy background). It's not really heard when a ton of notes are played.

    2) (Levels of sound) If the sound level varies for the keys like, "hi-lo-hi-hi-hi-lo", it's probably a defective VCO or VCA section. But actually it should follow a cycle of six notes - try to play rapid 16th notes and listen for a six-note cycle, like "hi-hi-hi-hi-hi-low-hi-hi-hi-hi-hi-low". If you can hear a 6-note cycling you've definitely got a voice malfunction. It could be that one of the oscillator is dying. I guess it can be repaired, but the repair shop will probably charge you for more than what the synth is worth.
Here's another test - create a patch where the filter cutoff is set very low, so you have a dull and rounded sound. Play some notes and listen if one of the filters are not responding (every sixth note should be wide open). Now do the opposite - make a sharp patch with the cutoff freq set to the max. Now you should be listening for dull tones. If one of these cases occur, you can be assured that one of the VCF circuits is a goner. -Thomas R Kolb" <tkolb@vpgot1.penta.volvo.se>

    3) (Levels of Sound) If you have a similar problem like above (#2). It may also be that it has gone threw many temp changes.

    Samples (Whats it sound like?)

The Akai AX60 sounds similar to a Juno-106. Its construction is also similar to the Juno-106 (for ease of use and popularity).
