One day in the peaceful druid city, a powerful druid named Illith approached the druid grand council asking to be allowed to continue his project concerning the reincarnation of dead creatures. Rejecting his idea as mad, the council forbade the continuation of such projects. Fearing that his work would go to waste, he stole the magical scrolls he needed from the grand druid library, and hid in his secluded laboratory below the grand druid city where no one could find him. He had a collection of various body parts of creatures he had killed in the various parts of the land while researching this powerful magic, which was known of by all, but not dared by any, fearing the sheer power and unpredictability of the magic. He took these body parts, and, mending them together to form a full beast, he created many fearsome creatures, which, as soon as they were granted life, turned on him. He, unpanicked, transported these creatures to far ends of the Realms. And so were born such creatures as The Lich Ciquala, Xor, and the terrible Leviathan. Fearing the same thing would happen, Illith created magical barriers around his future creations, so he could, if needed, slay them if they tried to resist. He created new creatures, one after another, still unsatisfied. That was, until he created a creature beyond his own imagination. This creature had amazing mental abilities, and was peaceful by nature. This pleased Illith, who then created a mate for this creature. However, waking under the bonds of magic, these creatures went berserk, tearing through their magical bonds, sending out mental energy in all directions, searing Illith's skin. Illith fled from his laboratory, never to be seen again. These new creatures, awakened and aware, ascended into the druidic town. They were rejected and forced out by the druids, who shunned them for their appearance. The creatures had metallic purple skin, with tentacles instead of arms. They had antennae coming out of their head and large yellow eyes which peered through a person's soul. Rejected and sad, these creatures wandered out into the world, and soon established themselves as wandering prophets with the highest mental ability known to all races. They procreated and soon there were many of this species. The race prospered, and took the name Illithids after their creator, whom they still search for to this day. However, they still hold a grudge against the druids who kicked them out into the world so long ago.
Illithids are a psionic race of wandering prophets. Magic users by trade, they practice the art of using mental force upon others to achieve their desires.
