Although regular chat can be great fun, the addition of another dimension can add interest. Some people like to add to chat with the use of wavs, some people like to play with popups, and still others like myself use ASCII art to spice up the conversation or make people laugh! It is not terribly difficult to get set up to use the art. The basics can be taught in five minutes! To make it easier to use the art effectively however, takes a little more effort....but still not too much! I hope this tutorial helps you to learn about this fun activity in as little time as possible! Have fun!

A WORD OF CAUTION

Please keep in mind that on many servers, and in certain channels on IRC, the use of ASCII art may be frowned upon. In some cases, if you use it, you could be automatically kicked. If you are allowed to use it, then it would behoove you to be considerate of others. This means you should consider who is in the channel and only use art that is not likely to offend anyone. It means that if there are twenty people chatting in the channel, you most likely should not use a fifteen line macro. There may be times when it would be appropriate, but try to use sound judgement in order to avoid the disruption of a channel. If used sparingly, and in good taste, ASCII art generally is very well-received !
