A glimpse of Shri Venkateshwara Swami decked with a bejeweled crown on his head, a wheel in his right hand and a conch in his left hand, all of them made with pure gold, studded with thousands of highest quality diamonds is the most spectacular sight in the whole world.

Hindu religion understood that individuals amassing wealth and living luxuriously will only lead to envy and fight over ephemeral things and so preached beautifying God with all the wealth and praising his glory, proving "men may come and men may go But God is always there."

Shri Venkateshwara Swami is a standing proof for the depth of this belief among Hindus. Even the poorest of the poor will take a pilgrimage to His holy temple called Thirumala Thiruppathi , many a time climbing the thousands of steps by feet to reach the Lord of seven hills and giving his few paisa savings from the whole year's meager earnings, which he did not spend in the direst of situations.

A rational mind cannot understand the strength of this devotion which is not perpetuated by any fear but a sense of love and devotion. Go to a holy river on an auspicious day and you will see hundreds of thousands of Hindus taking a bath and going to the closest Shiva temple for a darshan (sight) of God. The belief in the purifying effect of a river on a holy day moves thousands and thousands of devotees even today.

Religion is the lifeline in India and the foundation of that religion lies in the sacrifice of hundreds of true saints over thousands of years. Still there are a few souls living a simple and pure life and praying for a renaissance of the once greatest civilization in the world..
